For those following an earlier thread, I brought to Fender's attention the dual pricing of the UCT-4 (for G-Dec) that sells for circa £37 street price, and the MIII 4-button (same pedal, different writing) that was selling for £60-70 street price.

I'm delighted with Fender's swift & pragmatic approach (see below), & impressed that they do take note of customer feedback - well done Fender! :D

I am still querying with them though why the 4-button is standard with the MV that is the same price, but not the MIII when both MIII & MV are aimed at gigging players. I'll keep y'all posted here.

Quote:
Hi Richard,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I sent this onto our European managers and they have now adjusted the price of the Mustang footswitch. It has been decided to realign the price of the mustang footswitch to bring it in line with the ULT-4 so they are both set at a retail of £49.20. This may well be a little less when its sold in stores however that’s the new RRP inc vat.
Hope that clears things up a little for you.

Kind regards

Good work Rich,

That should help those waiting for their F/Switches.
The Guitarist May Review of the Mustang III will put
more pressure on it's price, as in Up. Glad I have mine now.
Keep yours too - at the price you've paid. And no "fizz" either.

Rock On,
Jim

Nice!

Still expensive for what it is, though. :)

BTW, does the amp come with a 5 year warranty in the UK?

Hi,

From Thomann , Germany - for Ireland, it's a 3 year warranty.
From the UK - I have no idea. Maybe I should check it out.
The exchange rate with the UK makes the amp a lot dearer,
and delivery to Ireland is not included.
Delivery for any item over €200, is included with Thomann !

I guess that 3 years is store warranty rather than manufacturer. Not as nice but still reasonable.

Very cool, great initiative and follow through on your part (and kudos to Fender for listening to the customer).

The odd thing is, when I purchased mine, the G-DEC foot switch was actually *more* expensive than the Mustang's! I know this because GC mistakenly ordered me a G-DEC foot switch at first (neither the sales person nor I was aware that the "official" switch was in short supply). When I returned it, I made sure that they wrote *down* the price to the Mustang's foot switch price.

So, it is interesting to see the fluctuations... At first I thought perhaps the retailers were manipulating the street price due to the constricted supply, but here it sounds like there is some Fender influence behind it as well (raising the MAP floor?). Hmm.

PITA

PITA, I am in no doubt that Fender manipulates prices globally, depending on what it thinks the local market can stand. All of their gear is wildly overpriced here in Australia in relative terms, including their footswitches.

For example, a Mustang II amp that retails for about $200US in the States, sells here in Australia for $350A at a time when the Australian dollar is worth up to $1.10US.

This is caused solely I'm sure by the price Fender sets it's Australian retailers for the amps, and is all about featherbedding it's profit margins in a smaller market - explainable perhaps, but also greedy and inequitable.

I think that import duty and transport/marketing/distribution costs are important factors. This is why US gear is cheaper in the US, UK gear is cheaper in the UK etc. I wanted to get an MI Audio Crunch Box and these are really expensive in the UK as compared to Aussie prices where they're made.

Rich

I accept that local protectionism and transport costs account for some of the price differences between countries, but US companies have been gouging Australian consumers on prices for years on musical gear, and reinforcing that position by refusing to allow US retailers to sell direct to Australian customers at US prices.

I cannot go onto sites like Musicians Friend and buy musical gear at US 'street' prices, which would be cheaper than Oz prices even with shipping costs, because Fender (and a whole swag of other US companies) has forbidden MF to let me do that, because it would undercut their inflated Australian profit margins.

Hmm - perhaps that's one for Fender to comment on. Anyone from Fender looking in?...

When it comes to the crunch, I suspect that neither US or Australian, or UK, retailers will ever rock the boat very far on these kinds of issues, because cosy and legally binding US/Aus trade deals that favour companies over consumers prevent it, and also because their supply from the manufacturers might mysteriously dry up.

Anyway, enough whingeing from down under ! I don't really expect the Fender tech guys to respond to this kind of stuff - like most of us I'm sure they would much rather be playing some music, preferably through a Mustang !

Hi depepat,

It's just the same here in Ireland - and we're the nearest EU country
to the USA. Of course Fender UK gets it's cut, then the dealers, then the Irish,
who bring in the goods from the UK ! I buy from Germany where I get as good
a deal at least, and better, as being in the UK. Delivery from Germany is free
on anything over €200 - plus a 3 Year Warranty. Not so from the UK.
We pay, for the Dollar and Sterling conversion rates - plus delivery -
only a 2 Year UK Warranty and whatever else.
We have two Empires to deal with, also. The goods are manufactured in China,
in your area of the world, in the first place !.

Rock On,
Jim

Jim

I'd just about calmed down on the price difference issue, and now you've got me stirrred up again !

Don't get me started on warranties - 5 years warranty for a Mustang amp in the US, and ONE YEAR in Australia. What the hell is that all about !
