I bought the Mustang IV a week ago and for the most part I think it sounds great and there are loads of great features. My only complaint ("major" complaint actually) is the lag time when switching presets using the foot-switch pedal. I updated the firmware the other day which was supposed to improve this flaw but I don't see much of a difference.

How can musicians use this amp in a live setting? If you want to go from playing rhythm to a lead boost for a solo there's a noticeable drop in volume between switching presets. Same with going from clean to a distorted patch. It only happens for a split second but the volume cuts out and when the next preset loads up it sounds as though someone is turning the volume knob up gradually.

I still have a Yamaha DG80 Digital Modeling amp that I bought 9 years ago and the switching between presets is seamless. Why can't Fender make something similar in the year 2011?

Please Fender can you figure out a way to fix this?! I'd rather not have to return it or use it as a practice amp. I'm not resorting to digging out my analog pedals to change various tones/boost mid-range, because one of the main reasons I bought the amp was to keep everything simple/less cluttered.

I use it live and don't have any problems. It's not instant but still pretty quick, I would guess it's about 1/2 a second. I can work around it. It's about the same as my GT10.

I would hazard a guess that the Mustang doing a heck of a lot more DSP work than the 9 year old Yamaha DG80. If the Yamaha sounded nearly as good as or was at least as new as the Fender, you might have a point.

I will always willingly forgo fast preset switching for better amp modeling.

I had the same problem and discovered that if you download the most recent FUSE software, there is a patch that fixes this problem. It fixed mine and I couldn’t be happier with my amp.

I think laywrite is referring to the latest firmware upgrade, which also addresses the trailing distortion issue.

I agree with the original poster.... The amp is great... the pedal sucks.... I'm sorry ...I play live way too much...I don't need latency problems... half a second is still too much...I need "instant" switching... I'm talking strum a chord and the next chord has to have the change..... I never had that problem with Boss pedals or any other.... and saying just take it back is NOT an answer...With today's technology... there is absolutely no excuse....

Again.. I love the amp... I'm NOT...returning it...I'm just agreeing the 4 switch pedal has latency problems.... :) :)

Yes... I've upgraded to the latest firmware... :D

It's not the pedal per-se. The pedal merely gives floor control to what's in the amp. Any pedal latency issues are typically due to the interaction of amp & pedal software. This may be software related or due to the amps processor/memory limitations.

You are right... I tested the amp itself without the pedal....when I turn the knob on the actual amp... it does some weird stuff... ( only between certain patches ) before actually changing to the right sound on the correct patch...
