Hi folks

I've just joined the board - I'm awaiting delivery of a Fender Mustang III on Wednesday after the Easter break that I've just bought, and (unusual for the UK) I've got it on 30-days approval so if I don't like it I can get a refund. However, I was so impressed by Damon's vids on you-tube that I'm really hoping this will be a keeper!

I've been playing guitar for about 40 yrs (so bit of an old fogey I'm afraid) and years ago I had a Blackface Twin and a Silverface which were great amps but as I'm no longer gigging regularly buying a big all-valve Fender amp again is just overkill. So, I was looking for a 'pick-up' 'n go 1x12" amp that had great tone (especially the Fender tones that I miss) was light, versatile enough to use at home at sensible volume, but was also loud enough for rehearsals and smaller gigs - so I'm really looking forward to getting the Mustang III and I soooo hope it's going to fit the bill. The software package that comes with it looks very good, and I like that the amp has upgradeable firmware.

Once I've got the amp and have spent a little time with it I hope to come back with some meaningful feedback.

I'm on a few other forums but changed my name for this one - although my avatar might be familiar to some!

Best

Rich :)

Hi, and welcome.
Yes that avatar is familiar to me.
I own a Mustang 11 and its the best amp I have ever owned.
What I would give to have had this when I was starting out.
I cant help but think the mustang range is a milestone, at least it is to me.
You have made the right choice going for the 111-every day I think I should have bought the 111 but the 11 is still a very fine amp.
The Fuse software is fantastic but could use a bit more tweaking in terms of usability.
Mustang blows my now sold tonelab le straight into the bin.
Just bought a Fender Standard Telecaster to go with it-nice

Hi Hobbyist - congrats on the Tele. Although I've been playing nearly 40 years and have three Strats, it was only last year that I bought my first Tele. In fact, I just posted on the Tele forum here with some pics:

I hear you re 'starting out' - ironically my first amp, a Triump Leo, is now a collectors item, especially with the trend now back to small low wattage tube amps. Here's a pic of what I started out with:

Nice Tele, like the colour scheme.
Definitely something appealing about the simplicity of a Tele, and its somewhat ironic that I've ended up with the very guitar which I disliked so much as a teenager
Regarding the older amp, its amazing we carried on playing and found inspiration.
Thank God for Modelling amps.
All hail the Mustang, so much amp for so little money.

Happy Mustang IV owner here. My friend has a Mustang III as well. We gigged both amps last night. They are easy to use, reliable and sound great. You made a wise decision. Welcome to the forum.

Hi Rocket . . . .. . er .. . Rockcat! You may know me from TSB?

I purchased the Mustang V head a few months ago and could not be happier. Sure beats lugging around the Fender Super Reverb!

I put the MVhead on top of the 2x12 custom cab with EV12m-Ls and man oh man it gives me everything from Fender Clean to disgusting Distortion (the good kind :P ). Loving the SuperSonic!!!!

The FUSE software is acceptable as an Editor but lacking in some "basic" library functions. Such as "drag and drop", easy patch re-ordering, and building custom "batches".

One thing you will quickly discover is that you will want to add some mfxs into the Send/Return. The effects are all (well almost all) acceptable BUT you only get ONE each of the four "Type" of effects - in any postion (pre or post). So since the Compressor and the OD are considered of Type STOMP you can not load both at the same time.

I'm usings the TC Ele. G-Major for all the post preamp effects and it works great (as one would expect  ) with this amp.

I am seriously considering seling my Peavey 2 x12 Classic 50 now that I am so happy with this little head/combo set up.

For a grab and go amp, I think the M lll will be a keeper for you - if you play out with a BIG group for a BIG venue you can always just mic-up.

Congrats - let me know if I can help you - Blessing Bo Baker

Hi Gary, how you doing! (btw, I'm not Rocket on TSBN  ) Glad to hear you're loving the Mustang V. As long as I can use a reverb, a delay, compressor (or OD), and chorus (or other modulation) all together it will be fine for me. On my main gig-rig (Valvetronix AD120VTX/AD212/VC12) I can't select OD and compressor together either as these are in the same pedal section, so the Mustang doesn't seem to be too dis-similar. Even with my Laney VC30-210 plus 1x12 cab rig and pedalboard I rarely use OD with compressor anyway.

But I wonder if Fender might be able to upgrade the firmware so that 2 stomps in the same 'category' type can be used together? It would be good if they could at least put compressor in a separate 'type' so that it could be used 'globally' with OD.

Rich,

Welcome to the Forum! The G-DEC 3s have the compressor separate, unlike the Mustangs, although the Mustangs are more gig (with a band) friendly (bigger speakers, more wattage). Good to see you here! How do you have time with your other board duties?
