Hello everyone. I have a Mustang III. I bought it brand new at Guitar Center a couple months ago. I noticed today when I turn the volume past 5 it has an awful static/popping sound coming through the speaker. I've tried all 3 of my strats through it using different chords and they all do the same thing so I know it's the amp. I bought it Feb. 3 of this year. Has anyone else here had this problem with a Mustang III amp. I haven't abused the amp at all. I've never turned the volume past 8. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Try changing the physical location of the amp. Take it to a friends house or some other completely different location.

If you still get the static at a different location, then it is possible there is a problem with the amp. If not, there may be a problem with your local electrical wiring or interference from an electrical device on the same circuit.

If the problem is in your local wiring, you can use a "line conditioner". These are available for pro sound use but you can get away with one designed for use on computer systems - which are much cheaper. Usually PC power backup devices have these built-in but you can also get them without the battery - just a power conditioner and spike arrestor built into a power strip.

How loud is the static? I know my Mustang III you can hear a very faint fuzz when the master is turned up past about 5 but I think its the devil of a modeling amp. I can also get some mean static if I don't properly mute the strings on high gain "channels". As the previous poster mentioned it could be due to a bad ground connection in your local wiring or possibly even the transformer in your amp. I would try it in a different location and see if it still happens, if the problem goes away you were suffering from the 60Hz hum, FWIW fluorescent lights are notorious for this.
