Finally got everything working with the Mustang and Live Lite 8 last night. At first I didn't realize the ASIO driver was a separate file on the CD that needed to be installed. Once I figured that out, it all worked.

I was surprised to find the latency was as noticeable as it was. I guess I've got to give props to Line 6 for their Toneport/POD Studio interface and Gear Box software...I've never noticed the latency with that, and I've got the buffers set identically. It's not bad with the Mustang...I don't think it would be an issue in the end, but it does feel a little weird. So even though I don't care for Gear Box all that much, the Toneport/POD Studio is a pretty nice interface!

But something strange was going on...after several minutes this machine-gun static would start and the audio from the Mustang sounded really bizarre. It seemed like maybe the CPU was getting bogged down. If I adjusted the buffer, it went away...but the really strange part was it didn't matter which way I adjusted the buffer...even if I made the buffer smaller, it went away. And, just as odd, not only did making the buffer larger not prevent this from happening, it didn't seem to extend the time frame before it occurred. Now I didn't push the buffer way up, I guess I could try that...but then it increases the latency as well.

I might just go back to running the Mustang through the Line 6 Toneport...that's what I was doing before I realized I needed to install the Fender ASIO drivers. When I do it that way, there's no noticeable latency...it's a lot of cords running around, but that's not a big deal.

BTW, one small irritation is that when you use Live Lite 8, you need to monitor through the computer. But if you don't plug something into the headphone output, the amp still comes through the speaker...not great for doing this at night when the kids are in bed! I guess I can just plug in a set of earbuds or something, but a speaker mute switch would have been nice! Just another reason to run through the Toneport, since that takes the signal from the headphone out, then you monitor everything with headphones through the Toneport itself.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a plug for Line 6, esp. on a Fender Forum...reading through it, it kinda comes off like that. Just meant to say that, while it's not an ideal solution, it does provide some advantages when used as an interface with the Mustang. However, when it comes to the modelling, I think the Mustang models are superior to those in Gear Box!!

I have noticed this when you have the computer audio and the mustang on in the hardware setup in abelton. If the only thing that's on is the mustang then you don't get it. I think it's more with abelton than the mustang but it's a conflict of some sort. If you veiw the fender video on abelton is suggests setting the buffer at 128. I might try using the line out instead of the usb so I can monitor using the computer. It's ok for the 1st track but how do I monitor for adding a 2nd track.

Well, I just plug in my headphones into my monitors, if I don't want to hear the sound through them. I also use the headphone out of the Mustang into my TonePort for recording.

I agree. I had a huge amount of problems with using ableton and the ASIO driver, but my old sound card contributed to it I believe. It wouldn't let me use my sound cards output, something kept disabling it. I think I used MME for it to work in ableton. Alan Wiley went above and beyond the call of duty to help me but, in the end we just ended up scratching our heads and blaming it on my sound card. I ended buying CakeWalk's UA 4FX interface which came with Sonar LE and it works perfect! ZERO latency using the mustang's headphone out into the usb interface. I'm still amazed by the help I was given. I have a MII btw.
