I have a Mustang III that Im really enjoying, infact I havent played this much in a long time. The only thing I dont like is how the speaker sounds with higher gain stuff. Anyway, I just played some with my 6 dollar headphones I use for my Ipod and Im blown away at how good it sounds now! Do I have a busted speaker or do I have to get a new one? Also even at quite low volumes Im getting a buzzing sound, Checked all the screws and I still have the prblem. Any thoughts?

My only thought is that it may be the fizzing buzzy sound that so many folks have mentioned already... I'm stuck with it as I have an older mac and can't update the firmware, but I'm finding it can be reduced greatly by tinkering with the amp settings...at least with cleaner amp models. As far as the heavy gain stuff goes, maybe someone else can chime in and give you some feedback. Anyhow... that's my 2 cents. Hope it helps...

As far as speaker replacement...there was a previous post regarding speaker replacement. They swapped out the speaker for an Eminence Tonlerlite and supposedly the fizzy sound was gone. Oddly, a few weeks after the post I saw a Mustang III with a Tonkerlite up for grabs on Ebay... not sure if it's the same one. Of course, speaker replacement would void the warranty but I guess you could just hole on to the original speaker and if something when wrong, just reinstall it.

How old is your amp and how many "miles" or hours do you have on it. I mentioned in another thread that all speakers, especially loudspeakers, need to have the surround broken in before they will sound there best. Basically when the speaker is new the surround will be stiff and wont allow the speaker to vibrate completely until its softer.

You mention a buzzing sound, can you mute all the strings on your guitar and still have it? If so I would suspect either 60Hz hum, patch cable or even the ground where the amp is plugged in. When I plug in a cheap patch cable to my amp I get a really loud hum just because of the cheap cable. 60Hz hum is the most common though as its how AC power is fed into your house in the shape of a Sine wave (the power turns on/off 60 times a second) dimmer switches, fluorescent lights, refrigerators and some other household items can contribute to 60Hz hum as well. Another tasty one is pop's, when the motor in your fridge turns off it actually sends a large voltage spike back into the electrical system which will in turn cause your amp to make a poping noise.

I've got a Eminence Cannabis Rex in mine and I think it sounds fantastic - nice n' chimey on the cleans and the crunch is good and chewy - just the way I like it... ;)

What OHM type do you have in your amp? 8 or 16?. I've read many reviews and I think I'm going to get one. Also, was there any difficulty installing it? Thanks..

Just the 8 Ohm model - installed it in 5 mins - pretty easy.

When you removed the stock speaker was there any sealant or glue holding the speaker in the cabinet? Sorry, for all the questions, I'm a nerd at doing this  I noticed that the CR has holes for 8 screws. Did you just install it with the existing 4 holes?. All info greatly helps me. Thx! :)

No glue or sealant. and yes, I just used the 4 screws - I've never had a problem. :) Give it a go - it's simple ;)

Excellent. Thanks a million. I'm going to GC next week and picking one up. I must have read about 50 reviews and all VERY positive. I'm hyped to see what a difference it will make. And on the good side the stock Celestion G12T-100 can be sold on Ebay hopefully. They retail for about $129 new. I've got about 12 HRs playing time on mine. Thanks again! :D :D :D

Well, I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex for my Mustang III from Zzounds. Should be here by the end of the week. Can't wait to install and play through it. Thanks for the info. :D :D :D I'll give my review once I get accustomed to it.

There is definitely a bit of a "break-in" period, but it just keeps getting better to my ear - and I thought it sounded pretty good from day one! :) I think you'll really like it...

I received my new Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker last night from UPS. I just finished installing it. I have one word in regards to the tone of this speaker: "Incredible"!!!!!
I want to give a HUGE thanks to tkdunn17 for steering me in this direction. This IMO is THE go-to replacement speaker for the Mustang 12" series. At this point I've only gotten through a small handfull of the presets. I dialed to preset 12-"60's Sparkle" with my Squier CV 50's Strat. WHEWWW! 8) 8) I just cannot elaborate on the tone of this speaker. The best $89 bucks I've spent. I noticed a significant difference as soon as I started playing through it. I got mine from zZounds with Free Shipping. I highly recommend this speaker. Thanks tkdunn17!!! :D :D :D
