I have a mustang v and use windows 7. I have followed the setup to the letter over 30 times and still can't input through the usb into Ableton lite 8. Settings are as follows Dr Type ASIO, Audio device is fender universal ASIO, Hardware is Mustang Amplifier. No where can i find a usb input. In windows device manager it shows two icons. Both look the same like a box device. One is listed as a fender amp. The other is listed as Universal Serial Bus controllers. It has been listed as disabled by windows with message: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) Yet all my buses seem to function fine. I can only get tone in the setup while using MME/Directx. Has anyone run into this problem?

Thanks. Will look into it. However I would still like to make it work if possible. Pissed me off so now I'm on a mission.

Under the driver type selection boxes there is a "Hardware Setup" button. That is the ASIO setup panel. You should see either the Mustang or a USB Audio device listed there along with your built in sound hardware. You may need to disable the inputs on the other devices so that the Mustang is the only input.

You can use the test tone function in the Audio preferences panel to verify that you have output.

Thanks. Recent update. Aparently ASIO driver has corrupted my USB driver. Still addressing that issue. Is the icon for the mustang amp icon part of the ASOS installation program or is it a windows icon?. My USB controller has the same icon.

Hi Punkpipes,
I have windows 7 had no problems with windows, but in ableton/options/preferences/audio/hardware setup /asio settings window you have to make sure that all devices (mine is Realtek) are off except Mustang. Mine does not show a usb. The Amp must be turned on before Ableton or it won't be recognized. I made my first recording last night It's a slow learning process. I watched the video's under fender support/videos/third party software. They deal with G-dec's but it helps a little

Let me say first. This is a great forum. No trash talking. Just good info. OK, my hopefully last question. I can now lay down tracks, but can only play back if the Realteck is turned back on in hardware preference. Not being a computer geek or sound engineer I'm not sure how to for example. Play back a recorded track on track 1 and record a new track on track 2 at the same time. I'm currently using a laptop and can add external monitors. But play back through the mustang amp would avoid a lot of clutter. Will the USB port do this or do I need to us another configuration.

Playback is not possible through the Mustang Amp unfortunately, I can't remember if it was the amp or live 8 that didn't support it. But I do remember reading that you have to use your on board computer sound to play back.

Yes I found that to be true. At least in windows 7 it appears to be no way to record a while using a play back track. Kinda defeats the purpose really. Ableton has crashed at least every other use losing all the recorded data. And the crash report crashes everytime . So as far as windows 7 user go Audacity may be a better option. For average user Ableton is abit complicated. I downloaded, intalled and recorded two trackes in less than five minutes. Its much more plug and play ready.

Are you running a 64-bit version of Win7? I run a 64-bit and I have noticed on some of my older programs that weren't designed for 64-bit run rough or have some compatibility issues, some dont even work at all. I would blame this on microsoft as they seem to be phasing out backwards compatibility with there operating systems. I haven't gotten around to playing with Live 8 yet I just picked my Mustang III up on Tuesday so I haven't made it that far into it yet, but hopefully tonight I will get a chance.

If you want to hear previously recorded tracks while you record additional tracks, you have to monitor through the computer. I agree it's less than ideal. However, I have not had any crash issues, and I'm using Win 7 64-bit...it crashed once, but I think I did something stupid...don't even remember for sure anymore!

I have a Line 6 Toneport, and find that it makes a nice interface...run from the Mustang headphone to the Toneport L and R Line inputs (so I can take advantage of the stereo signal), then plug my headphones into the Toneport. Then I use the Toneport ASIO in Ableton. It's a few extra cords, but it works pretty nicely.

According to Ableton. There software is 64bit compatible. I picked up a mustang v and love it. But after 3 weeks of headaches and having my USB drivers corrupted. Do yourself a favor and use Audacity and have some fun first. Ihave not given up on Ableton yet. I just don't have the time to deal with all its technical issues. And Audacity is free.

What I put in bold is a selling feature for me anyways, I spend too much money on gear to shell out the dollars for a recording program to play with! I must confess I had two days of troubles with connecting my Mustang III to my computer, it would keep corrupting the driver and my amp would constantly be stuck "syncing" in Fuse but if you turned the preset dial on the amp you could see the amp and effects change on the computer screen. Now that I worked out all the kinks I love what the amp can do without even recording anything :D

I think you'll like the ease of use with Audacity. Download and install. Then plug in your amp and your off. Its that easy. And hey. You got to love these amps. I have been playing since 1960. The mustang series are the best tube reproductions yet to date with out the hassle. I use fender for its clean channel to run bagpipes through. And a seperate amp for my guitars. But with the mustang v I'm selling all my other amps. So play music. Not your computer. Cheers
