I just got my mustang v today that i ordered from musicians friend and i hooked it up to my line 6 4x12 stereo cab(8 ohms per channel in stereo)and when i power up the mustang v i get a loud rapid fire type popping sound from my line 6 speakers,i checked the speaker cables that came with the mustang v with my multi-tester and they checked out good and everything seems to be hooked up correctly, does any one know what can be wrong?i really think i have a defective mustang v.

Here is a update to the problem that i solved,i had to remove the panel with the stereo input jacks from the back of my line 6 4x12 cab and disconnect the 4 wires from the small circuit board with the two 1/4" jacks soldered to it,they are not wired in true stereo!,i tested the connections with my multi-tester and the left and right wire connections all had continuity between them, this is why i had the popping sound from the speakers(i do not know how the line 6 stereo heads are wired to work correctly with this 4x12 cab?),i then put in two new mono 1/4" jacks that i had and wired them in true stereo, line 6 wiring is red +,gray - ,left side rear of cabinet and white+,black-,right side rear of cabinet.fender really should be aware of this and should post more info about connecting the mustang v to different brands of 4x12 stereo 8 ohm cabs, they should also put a notice about it in the manual that comes with the mustang v.

Fender makes a cabinet for this amp head, why would they waste their time looking into all the combinations that are possible? If you are going to use something other than what they recommend, that is your job to research it! Have fun with this amp. I went with 2 2x12, that way I can increase the distance between the speakers for the real stereo experience.

I'm Glad you Figured it out, But
Maybe Line 6 should have told you there box would not work with any Amp. Geez.
The Problem was not Fender's It was yours thinking you had a True Stereo Box that wasn't.

I think you guys are missing the point here!fender sells the mustang v head with or without the 4x12 cab,i'am sure many buy just the head only because they already have another cab,the specs were the same with my line 6 spider cab compared to the mustang v 4x12,4 ohm mono and 8ohm stereo, yes,i would like to have the mustang v cab but i do not have room for another 4x12 cab and if i sold the line 6 cab i would most likely lose too much on it,by the way my line 6 4x12 sounds real good with the mustang v head, the cleans and overdriven tones sound the best, the metal high gain tones need a little extra tweaking to sound good but overall the clean fender models just sound amazing through the line 6 cab.

I'd like to have more info on that myself. The manuals are pretty thin on mating the head with other cabinets. I use a Marshall cabinet and the impedance matches but I have no idea how the stereo feature would work. I'm guessing probably not with the Marshall but I can't picture how it would work with one instrument even with the Fender purpose designed cabinet.

I'll say this though - this Mustang amp really sounds great pushing the Marshall cabinet. I feel like I finally have a guitar rig that can deliver.

If you had 2 cabinets then you would get stereo. (I assume your only using one cord) Were the stereo comes into play is with the effects. Have you used headphones on it. You can tell the stereo effects with them on.
