I just finished, well almost, a pedal board for my Mustang IV and III. I put in a patch bay and I'm gonna use a snake. I have a few quirks to figure out in the wiring, so it isn't all hooked up yet. I built a snake for it, so I will only have one cable running from the board to the amp.

I'm using the volume pedal, the boost I built (green pedal) and Supa-Trem through the FX loop. The Wah is in the amp input.

Hi Madsen,

can you share your DS2 settings with your MII? I can't seem to find even the beginnings of a sweetspot using mine.

Thanks,

Colin

Yeah sure, I just uploaded it using FUSE:
https://fuse.fender.com/mustang/preset. ... reverb-ds2

It sounds not too far from my old solid state amp with the DS2. But a bit better :)

But beware, that what I think is ok you might think is cr*p  Also, I only think it sounds ok using my bridge pickup (Blacktop Jag).

Guys
Pick a clean amp setting, plug your guitar into the pedal chain and the output from the pedal chain into the front of the amp. Bingo. The front of the Mustang is ANALOG, not digital.

Not quite. Yes it's analog up until it hits the Analog to Digital Converter or ADC. From there on, it absolutely is digital. Otherwise, there would be no amp modeling or effects - no sound at all. The ADC will distort horribly if it's fed a signal that exceeds digital zero db. This is why some people complain about their pedals sounding horrible when used on the Mustang. You have to be very very careful with the overall output level of any overdrive and especially boost pedals. In fact, I would not recommend boost pedal at all unless you use it very sparingly. You just can't treat these amps like you would an old tube amp... 'cause they're not.

That said, I use a 1st gen Danelectro Transparent Overdrive on my MII and I love it!

Ive been trying a tubescreamer copy and a big muff but im just getting loads of hum, thought it would be fine but theres no chance of using these with any sort of volume. Am thinking of getting a hum debugger but not sure if this will change.
Any help would be great.

The Hum Debugger works! Ever since I got it, I can focus on playing instead of focusing on noise and compensating for noise.

Thanks for that, I will give it a spin later :D

I used my Mustang III last night with my line 6 M9 pedal (stomp box modeler)... As I've seen you guys post it can't handle the overdrive/distortion tones... everything else sounds pretty decent though... It got a little harsh & brittle.....fizzy on the high end ....I think that happened when I kicked in the wah too...

I'll be tweaking the amp tones for a lead patch on my next gig...but I love it though..

I only wish they had a Hot Rod DiVille Model in it...that's the amp I use when I'm on tour..I'm not too much of a Twin Fan (never was) but it's the only real clean model the Mustang III has now... And what gives??? where's the "Presence" knob?

All in all, I love it, small, portable, user friendly and LOUD!! :)

Gonna do some tweaking this week

I use a behringer TO800 overdrive pedal into the guitar input on my mustang V and it just sounds great with many of the fender clean amp models,i get real good SRV and other great blues tones with this pedal, for a overdrive pedal that costs less then 30.00 i would recommend it to everyone who wants a good sounding overdrive for a great price!

I never had a problem pushing my mustang V into digital clipping with my behringer pedal, you just have to watch your volume and gain levels on the pedal and in your mustang amp.

In the past week I decided to try my Boss ME50 into my Mustang V head. I changed my footswitch presets to the Bassman, the Twin reverb, and the Deluxe. So far I love the results. Its not quite the same as when my Fender Concert amp was working, but it's much closer than I ever thought it would be. Once I get the Concert back up, I'll be able to have a much better left channel than my current one and the wife will really love it when I visit the man cave.

Mustang III Guys? This thread has been real informative, but I am new to the whole Mustang thing and am thinking of buying a DigiTech Whammy DT for the Drop Tune ability. So If I get one and I plug it into the Stereo 1/8" IN jack on my Mustang III, I am good to go? How about if I add a Budda Budwah? Thanks in advance.

Ummm, maybe I'm missing something, but why do you want to plug it in there, rather than the main input? Note the aux socket bypasses all the modelling and effects in the amp, and goes straight to the power amp.

I misunderstood a friends reply to a post. The Digitech Whammy should go in the front end shouldn't it. I just wasn't sure about it affecting the different presets in the amp.

The only way I have been able to make my mustang V take my pedals somewhat good... Is to use the studio pre amp settings, with absolutely no other effects...
If I use a modeling option... My expensive fuzzes like the wampler velvet fuzz or a distortion like the fat sandwich they sound horrible! And I mean unpleayable .... My mistake in buying this fender amp.

I think that is the key. The modeling amp accentuates the input and if you add too much in front of the amp it just turns it into noise. Less is generally better. I use a Tone Bone with it's own preamp tube. Adding a little bit of flavor in front of the amp just gives it a little bit more to work with and I get good results, adding a lot just gives me noise. My modeling amp also has bass presets. When my Rumble kept blowing the OD section I started playing it clean but with a BOSS ODB-3 then got rid of it and went back to my modeler till I can get a new Rumble. I had to turn the pedal WAY down to run it through the modeler but can get good bass tone out of the pair with just a few tweaks.
