I just use a Boss low impedance stereo volume pedal in the loop, and a Wah (not in the loop).

I've gigged with just the Mustang II, Mustang II and an ME70 in front of it for OD and Wah, and then also with just the Mustang and a BOSS OD-20. All with good results.

I occasionally use a Buddah Wah pedal in front of the amp and digitech Whammy in the loop. The DSP stomp box and rack effects are more than adequate for everything else if you use the FUSE software and get the 4 button footswitch.

Can someone please answer my question? Thanks.

So, in newbie language, what you're saying is that I can use any pedal/multi-effect pedal and plug it in normally WHILE using a normal amp setup (i.e. '59 Bassman, '65 Deluxe, etc) with NO EFFECTS on to it (let it be compression, delay, etc) and it will work just fine? :o

Not sure why you would want to but if your multi-effects pedal has amp modeling you will have better luck plugging the guitar straight into the pedal and then take the output of the pedal and plug straight into the Power Amp In on your effects loop. It will bypass the input stage and preamp stage of your amp. I have tried putting a pod straight into the input but it just never sounded right. Make sure your multi fx pedal volume is turned all the way down too before plugging it in and then raise it to desired level.

Yes you can use pedals and also use the built in effects. Separately or together. Just watch your input gain.. OK to overload preamp tubes, not OK to overload a digital frontend.

You can also disable speaker cabinet modeling in the advanced amp settings (click the amp button twice) -- this has helped me with pedals, at times.

+1million ... let's see there is an EQ already on each amp's master, cab modeling is just double EQ'ing ... I think I like a setting then I turn off the cab modeling and I like it more ..

Ive been trying a tubescreamer copy and a big muff but im just getting loads of hum, thought it would be fine but theres no chance of using these with any sort of volume. Am thinking of getting a hum debugger but not sure if this will change.
Any help would be great.

Hi, I know what you mean...it all depends on whether the Mustang has its effects coming before of after the Amp...I found a way around it, so tubescreamer, wah pedal and my new Octave/Fuzz peddle behave perfectly, but unfortunately I haven't been around here for a while and forget what I did, but I'm there's a few settings you can change on the Amp within ..frigs I even forget name of the software now.. but software that goes deeper into the Mustang...or go into yeah Fender fuse ..where you can download presets ( coming back to me now lol) looks for mine ..one ..i forget name but has something to do with VOX-Fuzz or Vox Crunch....that one there will allow you throw any pedals in front ur Amp...just disect it...and you'll get all your pedals running A-1 as if your plugged into any non modeling Amp. These Amps are the absolute best :D G'luck

The only pedals I kept were my favorite dirt pedals. Even though the MIII does a decent job at RAT style and amp style OD, nothing replaces my Big Muff!

So I'm running my EH Big Muff NYC big box (80s model), MXR '78 BA Distortion (LOVE THIS THING!), MXR Noise Gate in front of my Mustang III.

They fit nicely on my pedal board with the 4 button, 2 button and my soon to arrive someday backordered EXP1 :)

Right now I run a wah and a Joyo Ultimate Drive into my MIII and get great results. The onboard OD sounds fine, but I have a main rhythm tone set up using the Brit 80s and the overdrive stomp on the amp gives it just enough extra girth for my tastes. The Joyo is there for a solo boost and some extra oomph. Cuts through my band like a knife through melted butter.
I've toyed with a MXR Phase 90 and a Electric Mistress in my board too, and so far I like the results.
Since I can't get the footswitches to do what I want, and my setup for tones is probably over complicated, I am going to just start using the four button for gigs set up like a three channel amp and throw my pedalboard in front of it for effects.

I use a MXR MC404 Wah and a JamMan FS3x. I run both through the loop. sounds much better that way.

I have a Zoom G2.1Nu, and atuner running through the fx loop on my Mustang 3. Have a very clean set up at 00, based a Basic 65 with a touch or reverb. Had some problem with noise initially as I run both a gibson SG and fender in through a digital A-B box - that was sorted with a change to analogue.

I must say, I'm really impressed with the way the Mustang 3 handles the Zoom

I use my Boss DS-2 in front of the mustang II. However it did require some tweaking of the settings to works ok. Especially the gain and reverb was crutial. Now it sounds great :D
