I am expecting delivery of a Mustang III today and, having read posts about the fragile USB connector, I was wondering....is there any harm in leaving a USB cable connected to the amp so as to avoid constantly plugging the cable in and removing it? Thanks in advance for your help. Can't wait to try this thing...hope it lives up to all the great reviews I've read!!!

I'd say make a loop around the handle before you plug it to avoid accidental stress, maybe even a twist tie to secure it.

There is no harm in leaving it plugged in....
FYI You can get one of those usb cables thats 15 feet long on amazon for like 5 buck, so if it breaks dont worry about it....

Either way, if its plugged in all the time it wont hurt the cord or the input.
The only way you might hurt the input is if someone trips on the cable while its plugged in and it ends up bending the input on the amp a little bit or something like that...
Go ahead and leave it plugged in just be sure the cable is out of the way to prevent any accidents....

Congrats on the new amp - you are going to really like it. As mentioned on other posts - the problem is more the location (and size) of the USB input socket.

Front to back you have the mini USB socket, then behind that you have a 1/8 stereo headphone socket and behind that you have a mini 1/8 Aux in. There is not much room between any of these. My personal observation is that when both the USB and the headphones are plugged in the headphone chord (which will be going forward over the USB chord) will rub against the USB chord/socket and stress the socket.

There have been a couple of reports here that the USB socket has come loose or broken off due to stress.

The only quick solution is to insure that when you are using headphones that your headphone chord is forced to first go to the back of the amp and then around the sides - keeping it away from the USB socket. Lots of different ways to do that - I'll leave it up to you.

The more I look at this the more I want to open my head up (V Head  ) and retrofit it with a standard USB plug in the back of the amp. I just have to get up the nerve!

Bo

I think I'll buy one of these, and gaffer tape it in place: Mini USB angle extension cable on eBay.

I did something similar with the headphone jack, a short ~3" extension (actually a little y-cable/splitter). I do wish I had been a little cleverer and got something slightly longer I could loop around the handle.

Yeah, a full sized USB jack and 1/4" headphone jack. On my wish list would also be a separate speaker on/off switch instead of a switched headphone jack, because I could then leave my headphone plugged in all the time unless I am taking the amp out someplace (minimizing the chances of jacking [no pun intended] up the jack repeatedly plugging in and out--although maybe I'm just paranoid now because of the 3.5mm jack).

PITA
