To have one of these footswitches shipped from the US or UK to Australia would typically cost A$70-80, which is outrageous for an item that US residents can get delivered to their door for about $25.

Is there some VERY GOOD reason why these footswitches are apparently completely unavailable through any single member of Fender's very extensive Australian dealer network ??? (who of course are very happy to sell you one of the amps that they go with).

Shouldn't be too hard to build our own.

1/4 inch phono plug, cable and a footswitch in a box.

Just need to know if its an on/off or an on/on switch and whether plug tip is Pos or Neg.

Parts should be available from Jaycar or similar.

I know that I saw required details on Fender site somewhere but can no longer find same.

Info from experts please.

Unfortunately my 2 Fender footswitches are both 2 button.

Certainly if Fender are incapable of supporting their own amps in Australia with their own accessories (and also appear unwilling to explain why), it would be helpful if they could at least provide through this forum some precise specs for the Mustang I and II footswitch, so that us Aussies can at least try to find a local alternative.

Are you there, Loren ?

An explanation from Fender as to why the Mustang II retails in Australia for well over A$300 and for about $200 in the US, when the A$ is actually worth MORE than the US dollar, would also make for interesting reading !

FWIW, the availability of the footswitches in the US seems pretty suspect at this point, too! I ordered on with my Mustang I 3 weeks ago and every week I get an e-mail stating it's still back-ordered!

Don't have any idea on the price differential, though could be due to import tarrifs and such that is beyond Fender's control?? It does seem typical that amps cost more in countries other than that of manufacture. I have a Marshall JVM, and I know folks in the UK paid less than I did...and I even got a pretty good deal on mine! And I know Mesa's cost a lot more in the UK and Europe than in the US.

While protectionist trade tariffs may be a contributing factor, they don't account for all of that sort of price difference.

My money is on price gouging by a major company to maintain US-derived profit margins in a much smaller market - happens here in Oz with many other things, including books and CDs.

OK

dug out my '83 Concert footswitch ( lead and reverb 2 button - cable split into two with phono plug for each). The lead channel cable plugged into the Mustang 1 footswitch-in socket activates switching between 2 channels.

Also dug out my Mesa Boogie IIc+ channel switch footswitch ( 1 button with phono-jack for connecting to amp with guitar cable) - it also switched channels on the Mustang I.

As soon as I can I'll postphotos of the guts of both switches - unfortunately the heads of the phillips head screws in the boogie aluminium-cased footswitch are stuffed.

Fender seem to have taken the position that while it was a good thing to mention the footswitch in their advertising material and manuals, they didn't need to actually make and distribute any - or at least clearly nowhere near enough to meet the demand they themselves have created; a very odd bit of business planning.

As the saying goes... "The squeaky wheel gets the grease".

I sent my rebate off around Feb 5th and had not received one so, today I contacted MF by eMail customer support. After a few back and forth messages, I got this response:
Quote:
Thank you for your recent inquiry.

I've looked further into this situation, I would like to send the footswitch out to you at no charge as promised with the rebate. The only thing that will hold this up is that we do not have any in stock at this time. We are expecting to receive a shipment of them on April 11th. I will be able set the order up for you and get one sent out as soon as we can. Please let me know if this will work for you.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns, or if you are not completely satisfied with the service you have received from us today. We appreciate your feedback.

We appreciate you choosing Musician's Friend. Have a great day!

It looks like I will finally be getting one mid April :D

Found a one button BOSS footswitch here in Perth for about A$40 which appears to do the trick.

Would still have preferred the Fender footswitch, but if they can't supply them in a timely way to their US dealers and customers I could have been very much older before we ever get to see them here in Oz.
