I hope to trade my Tube 60 and Sanpera II for the Mustang III tomorrow at Guitar Center. I'll be losing money on the deal but, I have a feeling I'll be happier with the Mustang and the Fuse software than the Tube 60, which really is a pretty cool amp.

I did the same thing. I had the Vypyr 60 and traded it in for a Mustang IV. The Vypyr had great rock tones, but the Mustang has great rock AND blues tones. The blues tones were what was missing from the Vypyr. You'll be amazed at how much this amp sounds like a real tube amp. It's unbelievable! I didn't take a hit on the cost because I took my vypyr back within 30 days. I actually didn't get the Mustang right then. I didn't think it would be good after my experience with a cyber-twin years ago. I then read some reviews and gave it a try and was blown away. But I still didn't get it! I went home and it kept gnawing at me until a week later I went back and bought it. Never looked back!

Thanks for the input tjinca1, as my luck would have it they are out of them but, are unloading a truck as we speak and said they should have a couple of them on there. I just hope to trade even, I mean it's well over $500.00 worth of vypyr 60 and sanpera II, for a $300.00 amp

I did something similar. I traded in my Vypyr 100 for a Mustang IV. I'm glad I did. I wasn't happy with the build quality of the Vypyr and the firmware wasn't as stable as the Mustang. I was able to get some good rock tones from the Vypyr, but as was previously mentioned the clean and crunch tones are WAY better on the Mustang. Also, the Vypyr has nothing that compares to the Fuse software.

I have been very happy with my Mustang IV and would highly recommend one over a Vypyr.

Yet another previous Vypyr owner--- the 30 watt version. some great sounds- one great clean one-- but no Fuse-style software and I had this high pitch ringing I could not get rid of. Peavey has dropped the ball on that series sad to say--- Fender's gain though and I am really happy with my Mustang III.

Interesting read. I just recently got my Mustang IV. I had a Valvetronix VT50, which I loved, BUT it died. I only had it 1 1/2 years. The warranty ran out so I was out of luck. I talked to my tech and he said it would cost more to fix than the amp was worth. He didn't have much good to say about them. I also have an AD30VT which is working fine and I like it, but the tone of the MIV surpasses it by a mile.

I started looking a other options, one of which was the Vypyr. I need a modeling amp, and the Vypyr looked good, but I decided on the MIV, really glad I did. I like the warranty on both, 5 years, but after reading a lot of reviews on both decided on the MIV. Interesting to read how you guys swapped yours out for a Mustang. Though I will never get rid of my tube amps, I am absolutely happy with my MIV.

Have the Vypyr 30, nice little amp. Wanted to get a head unit but wasn't going to buy another 30 watt amp. Too much money for 120 watt Vypyr. Solution. Mustang V . What a bargain!!!

Interesting. I have the Vyp75 and an generally pleased with it. I really only use 2-3 tones. Clean, blusey/chrunchy, and kind of an 80's metal. I'm not into new metal so many of the Vyp models are of no use to me.

I'd love to have a stereo amp and did get to try a Mustang IV. Unfortunately it was very noisy, Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon, so I only spent a few minutes with it.

Question for owners. I understand the Mustang can cover clean and blues but what about 80's metal type tones, VH, Ozzy, Satch, etc.?

Any clips or examples?

Thanks,
Jerry

I am amazed with the Mustang IV at how good the 80s metal sounds are. They even have presets for Ozzy and other 80s metal type. Most people say if you want metal not to use a Fender, but this Mustang really does them well. I'd go back to GC again and try it out with each preset.

I'm thinking about ordering one online. That way I can try it out in my house with my gear and take my time.

Truthfully I prefer to buy at the store and take it home for a few days. Returns are alot easier at the store as opposed to geting an RA, repacking it and paying the return shipping costs- plus there is usually a coupon you can use at store lavel or a deal you can strike. Sure you pay tax but for me it is worth it. If you buy online you need to pay return shipping so it's close to a wash if the store is reasonably close. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. The problem for me is the nearest store is a 2hr drive. If there was one closer I would definitely pick one up.

I tried out a Vypyr 30 and was very impressed, (as I was with the Line 6 Spyder 4), but vascilated about the decision because I would need to buy a $199 pedal (Sempra II) to fully use all the functions of a $199 Peavy amp. I decided to think it over, walked around the store, then talked to the salesman who told me about the Mustang III & IV series. He said they had great sound but hadn't been out long enough for lots of reviews. So I decided to play around with a Mustang IV. After half an hour I was sold, but went home for a couple of days to read reviews and confirm the quality issue. Then I just had to have one. I didn't want the IV because I needed a smaller amp, so I went with the III, even though I had to order the 4 button switch separately. They were out of the III's so I ordered one to be delivered. I ordered it on Friday and it arrived on Wednesday.
I am glad I waited on the III instead of going with the Vypyr or Line 6. It sounds great and the interface is the easiest on the market, and even better with the FUSE software.
Kudos, Fender! You got this one right!

OMG, I hope it comes in this week they had to order one, about to die wanting to play this thing, and mess with the FUSE software.
