Are you asking "how to do it?" or "how to calculate it?".

Here is the "Magic Formula" for determining Delay Milliseconds::::::

Simply devide 60,000 by the tempo of your song (in beats per minute). So 60,000 / bpm = delay time per beat in milliseconds (typically the quarter note).

So, applying the formula to your dotted 8th note (which is an 8th note + a sixteenth note) on a tempo of 120bpm it works out like this:

60,000 / 120 = 500bpm for a quarter note

So an eight note would be half of that 500 / 2 = 250bpm

So a sixteenth note would be half of that 250 / 2 = 125bpm

Add the eigth note and the sixteenth note 250 + 125 = 375bpm.

Our answer then is a dotted eigth note at a tempo of 120 = 375 milliseconds setting.

This will work at any tempo - just substitute the new tempo for the 120 above.

Hope that helps . . .. blessings, Bo

Yeah, I wish they would have had options like eighth, dotted-eighth, or triplet, which is even harder! Seems it would have been easy enough to at least incorporate that in FUSE. I've owned a Boss DD-5 for about 10 years now and the dotted 8th is my "go-to" setting...sure wish it was easy to punch it into the Mustang.

While Gary's method is helpful, who wants to sit down and do math every time you need set the tap tempo! I was a math major in college and even I don't want to do that!! :x Besides, when I'm just jamming, I have no idea what tempo I'm at!

Heres' another method I sometimes use:

Tap in a dotted quarter....a bit easier, just count "ONE-and-two-AND-three-and-FOUR-and", tapping on the ALL-CAP counts, ONE, AND and FOUR. Once that has been entered correctly, I tap my finger next to the "Tap" button twice as fast (my finger taps twice for every flash). Once I feel I've got that I quick move my finger over and tap the button a few times. It get me reasonably close, though if you're trying to do U2 type stuff, where the delay hits right between your playing, it's still not always quite accurate enough.

Yea, I can agree . . . but even the "automatic" settings are based on the "default master time" of the unit you are using which may or may not work with the tempo you are playing with. Usually, that's not a big deal as long as there is not to much "orchestration" going on.

It does seem reasonble to expect a future update to include the 1/4, 1/8, dotted 1/8 and 1/16 delay settings.

Finger tapping (or foot tapping) seems to alwys work for me.
