I am a complete noob on the electric guitar front. I come from an acoustic background, but decided I wanted to start playing around with an electric. After watching you tubes videos and reading everything I could from Google searches I narrowed down my practice amp to a mustang 1 or line 6 spider 15. I know this is a fender forum and may be a bit biased, but I would love to hear people's opinions on these amps. Thanks.

Although I am prone to go with the fender, I would consider all models and productions. I have never tried a line 6. However, I would check online to see which amp has the most problems / issues, and avoid those. Also, I think the modeling amps are nearly one of the same as they use processors from the same maker like most LCD Tvs use the same manufactures for the bulb and processors. Although they all provide modeling capability some have other functions like looping and interface with a computer. Your best bet is to check them out at a retailer and see for yourself which is best for home practice, then check on line for the issues/problems with that specific model. Fender has a great 5 year warranty and they usually replace the amp if it’s malfunctioning. Vox also makes some great modeling amps.

They use Line 6 Spider 30's where I teach guitar. I really hate them. I'm a big Line 6 fan. I have 3 of their products but the Spiders are really lame IMO. The Mustang will sound WAY better!

I have the line 6 spider III 15w and my mustang I just blows it away!the spider 15 just sounds harsh and digital sounding on the metal and insane models and i do not like the crunch channel at all but the clean channel is not bad,it is a little dark sounding but sounds great with other external modeling effects going into it but that will cost you more money if you have to buy more guitar effects processors, the mustang I just sounds good on many of it's amp models(no need to really buy any external effects to make it sound good, fuse will take care of that),the cleans are great, the high gain models i also like because they are smooth and not harsh sounding like the models on the spider 15,the effects are much better on the mustang compared to the effects in the spider,i know this might not be a fair comparison because i do not have the spider IV 15w wich may sound better then my spider III 15w but i would still go for the mustang I.

I totally agree. The clean setting is all I can stand on the Spiders.

Nah. I don't know what processors they use, but the main factors are the algorithms and the power amp, plus speaker and cab. These wouldn't be the same between manufacturers.

I own two Line 6 modelers...the Toneport UX1, which has the the POD XT models, and also the Pocket POD, which has the POD 2.0 models. I've dialed in a few presets from each that work pretty well, but so far I'm much happier with the tones I'm getting from the Mustang I.

And the Spider amps in particular, I've never really cared for. The models always seem over compressed to me...mushy with flabby low end response. And harsh, like someone else commented.

Further, you are very limited in how much you can adjust the parameters. With FUSE, you're going to have much more control over the parameters of the Mustang.

I do like some Line 6 products...have their Verbzilla pedal on my pedal board and am very happy with it. But the Spider amps, not so much!!

Thanks for all the info. Don't really have a place around me to try them out, so I think you sold me on the Fender.

I work in a music store and sell both of those amps. For the money the mustang wins hands down. The line 6 is ok, has a lot of presets out of the box. But it does not have the ability to deeply edit the presets like you can with the mustang and the fender fuse software. Line 6 does not supply you with recording software either. Being able to plug your mustang into the computer also lets you download new amp updates, and keep your amp up to date with the latest presets and band tracks that come out.
I used a line 6 toneport UX2 for years to record on the computer, it was a PAIN!!
The mustang made home recording way easier, I could just plug it in and go without spending hours tweaking the settings, and it actually plays back through my computer speakers where as the toneport could only be heard through headphones. For a great practice amp at less damage to the wallet, mustang all the way!

My nephew has the Line 6 and I have a Mustang II. The ability to edit the amp using Fuse (I am also a relative Newbie) makes the Mustang the hands down choice. So many more options to experiment with and try.

I dont know if I caught it in time to comment, but I was just on the fence between a Line 6 Spider IV 75W and a Mustang III 100W and well I took the Mustang III home after about 15 mins of playing it. Line 6 is well suited if you want to play a lot of metal or heavy rock but it cant really hang with the other guys when it comes to other sounds. The Fender doesn't do the heavy stuff quite as good; however it covers everything in between VERY well.
