Has anyone ran an extension cabinet on the Mustang 3? The only way out is the 1/8 Headphone. I want to run a 1x12 cab and not sure what ohm is in the amp and what ohm I should run. I guess I will have to run 2 wires off the speaker post to a jack. Any suggestions?
Love the amp. I may swap the speaker if I can't run an extension cab.

You won't be able to drive a speaker (unless it's amplified) from the headphone output. What you want is an 1/8" stereo to 1/4" mono patch cable, so you can plug into an amp (perhaps a keyboard amp) with a larger speaker.

this is true . . . . however . . . . be sure to turn off the cabinet emulation and don't expect a very good fidelity as the headphone out preamp is not a very good signal for driving guitar speakers . . . it's for driving those little speakers in your head phone.

Better solution is to get a V head with speaker outs.

I love the idea of getting all of the bells and whistles with the small cab and being able to take it to a jam anywhere. I just want the option to plug into other cabinets. I have always enjoyed a 1x12 over a 1x12. 4x12 is too much. I already have a halfstack. There has got to be a way to work a speaker out. Jump it off the speaker maybe. Not sure I understand why turning off cabinet emulations. Here is the cabinet I want to build with an Eminence spkr (there factory is 5minutes away from my home).

Well you could cut the speaker wires between the amp and the speaker and put a female speaker connector on the wires coming from the amp. Then put a set of male speaker connectors on the wires coming from the speaker's lugs. If you want to use a different speaker, hook it up they same way and unplug one and plug the other into the amp.

Adding speakers to what the amp came with is a whole different issue. Since this is a solid state amp the impedance ohm load is not AS critical as with a tube amp but should still be observed if at all possible.

There are basically two ways to hook up speakers 1. In series ( + to - to + to -) or 2. parallel ( + to + and - to -). Series adds the ohms i.e. 8 + 8 = 16 ohm and parallel is 8 x 8 (64) divided by 8 + 8 (16) so the result is 4 ohms.

This is an amp emulator and each of the amp models comes with the default speakers that came with the original amp. The speakers that come with your amp were chosen to provide as flat a frequency responce as possible so that the eq tweek of the "modeled cabinets" would come through.

If you are wanting to try other speakers and are expecting them to sound like they would in a tube amp you can not "color" them with the eqing of the cab sims. Thus, turn off cab sims.

I'm not saying you HAVE to turn the cab sims off - just that they will not sould like the "real" speakers would since you are applying eq to the signal.

Good luck . . .. Bo
