I have only had my Mustang IV for about a week and until last night I liked the cleans, but didn't love them. They sounded a bit too "muffled" for some reason. I saw another thread saying something about going into the amp section, then into cabinets and scrolling so there is no cabinet selected. I didn't know that was an option. I tried it on my clean preset and man it now sings!

It was almost like with the cabinet model it was trying too hard to shape the sound, and without it selected the true tone comes out. I mean it literally sounds like a good Fender tube amp now. Amazing. In the past I got fed up with modelers because they could all get a decent distortion sound, but the cleans were never great. The Mustang has both. It really is amazing for someone like me who swore by tubes for years!

You know what, I think you might be on to something. It sounds less muffled with the cab off on some of the presets that I have. The 65 Dlx, Twin Reverb, Champ and Supersonic. It didn't seem to have much of an effect on the Bassman. The 57 Dlx just a little...

Are you using headphones? I am...

I agree, let your ear be your guide and do not get stuck on the name of the selection is what I quickly learned. I am finding the clean tones I am looking for but not always in the expected cabinet name at times. I noticed the No Cab too, good to try it depending on the guitar is seems. (I have a III)
What a fun product this series is.

No, just blasting it. With no cab selected it sounds more "jingly" like Fender tube amps do. I likey.

No kidding. It makes a huge difference on a lot of presets. I've been going through and changing all my presets to cab off. I got about 30 more to go...

Okay I just got a Mustang IV yesterday. Do I have to do this with the Fuse software from my computer while the USB cable is connected?

I have the Mustang I, but on the Mustang IV you should be able to do it without Fuse via your LCD display on the amp.

That's right--I'm not in front of the amp at the moment, but IIRC, you'd punch the amp button twice to reach the second page of settings on the display, then punch the data wheel until you've selected the cab "knob" and rotate to select the "off" position.

This is a good tip to try, I noticed the control before, but haven't had a chance to try it and listen carefully to the difference--I guess I'll have to make time now.

Thanks for suggesting it, tjinca1.

I wish you could disable the amp model sound too to use it as a keyboard amp.

However, I think it's switching to the guitar speaker's natural sound when you do this. It's not an FRFR solution so a lot of the cab models, even if it tries to counter-EQ the Speaker's natural EQ curve, can sound a bit washed out or processed.

The Speaker seems a little fizzy as is for higher gain though, it's definitely fairly full range. I'm skeptical about how the Mustang III speaker sounds based on this, I think the II's speaker is closer to FRFR.
