So I'm a little confused. I use a laptop connected to my Mustang I. I sit it next to it pretty much all the time to be able to run fuse. When I use headphones with the laptop, I have no issues. But when I run the laptop to the Mustang via AUX, I hear all sorts of noisy stuff, like hard drive accesses....fuzz...beeps...

What are you using for AUX and does it sound okay to you?

mine beeps too. I can create various types of noise by moving a mouse around. Those frequencies sound almost like some techno hits.
I think it is because of crappy onboard sound card on my laptop. (it has problems with ASIO too, but that's another story)

But when I plug in some cheapo mp3 player in AUX, it sounds ok. no noise, no strange frequencies. So it must be laptop although headphones on laptop show no sign of ...fuzz... :)

I haven't noticed anything like this; I do hear MS Windows sounds routed to the amp via the aux in as I would expect, but no extraneous noises.

PITA

Yup, sounds to me like your laptop's built-in soundcard is not up to snuff.

A cheap alternative would be one of these and a few cables/adapters from Radio Shack or some such place.

I use one of those U-Control interfaces on one of my Windows computers along with a small mixer with no issues. I use the headphone out of the Mustang to go to the computer via the mixer, but if that isn't for you, you can still get a clean audio out from the computer via the interface.

If you don't need to record on your computer with it, you don't even need to install the ASIO driver or any driver for that matter as the OS (Win/Mac) will usually find it automatically - just plug it in.

This isn't the only alternative but it is probably the cheapest - if it bugs you enough.

ok the the consensus is my amp is picking stuff up that my AKG's don't, and it's because my soundcard isn't very good.

I guess the simple solution is to run both the amp and the laptop to my headphones.

Thanks for your help,
Eric

On some computers you can actually hear these kinds of sounds through the line out jack. I bought a PowerMac G5 when they were new and one of the big issues was that it had a high pitched beep and you could hear things like programs opening and webpages loading though the line output.

Fender has a great 5 yr warranty. They replaced my broken amp quickly with no problems. They are great to deal with.

I can't explain it, but any time I try to use headphones, I hear the computer noise, whether I run the laptop through the aux or not. The Amp doesn't even have to be on. So even if I run the amp and the laptop to my headphones with a y-splitter, I hear the noise. If I unplug the amp input into my headphones the computer noise goes away.

Strange...

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I found out what my problem was and thought I would share.

Since the consensus was that my laptop had a cheap headphone out,I went ahead and bought the USB sound card device that was recommended, from Behringer. I got the device, plugged it in, and ran the output to the aux in on the Mustang 1. SAME FREAKING PROBLEM!

Well, now I knew that it wasn't the headphone jack so I started looking around for other problems. I finally figured out that when I was running on battery the noise went away. So I had a laptop AC adapter that was noisy. My girlfriend and I use the same laptops so I grabbed hers and plugged it in, no noise. So it was the laptop a/c adapter the whole time.

Sine this is my first electric guitar amp I didn't think of interference, this is probably a common problem that everybody knows about except for me, the dumb noob :)

Thanks for your help!
