I am thinking about ordering the mustang 1 this Tuesday, and I'm curious to know everyone's opinions about it if I should buy it or not. I want a lot of effects like wah's because I do quite a few covers from different bands and could use them and I heard the Fender fuse has all that and more. How great is the tones? and distortions? And is the recording really useful for this amp? I heard you can barely hear it (from reading a thread on the forum). How many effects would I get from the fuse program? I play from Judas Priest/Iron Maiden to B.B. King, which since it is a fender I can only imagine the clean tones are amazing but I heard the distortion sucks and defiantly wanted the everyone's opinion on the forum. :D

I also have a Mustang I and think it's a great amp for the money. Although I've had it a relatively short time, I haven't even begun to explore all the sounds I can get from this thing and it is working out very well for recording. I also use Reaper and don't have a problem getting sufficient signal for recording.

I'm glad to hear the recording is very well

High gain tones? Sweet! That's what I was hoping to hear :)

What is "Reaper"? Is it the built in recording program or some other program?

If you just play with the Mustang 1 presets, you might come to that conclusion. But you HAVE to open up Fuse, and you should also track down the .ZIP file floating around here with the 100 Mustang III presets.

When you open up Fuse, make sure to click the Advanced Amp button off to the right, as it gives you access to noise gate, tube settings, and lets you swap cabinets in and out. This greatly improves the quality of almost all distortions. In Fuse, you also can access the British 70s (Marshall Plexi) amp, which you cannot just by tweaking the hardware knobs on the amp itself. Take that amp and throw an overdrive in front of it, and you basically get every NWOBHM tone that you could ever want. Additionally, the Dual Rectifier/American 90s and 5150/Soldano/Metal 2000 models are awesome for highgain as well. Just start on a relatively unaffected setting and tweak from there. The presets for those models that come standard on Mustang I do them no justice in my opinion.

I will find the presets for sure! :D

Thank you! It seems really complicated, more than a map of hell! Is this easy to use? :?

Reaper is the most amazing DAW ever (my opinion of course) Trust me worth the learning curve. Once you use it and get familiar with it, you forever find yourself being disappointed by all other DAWS you try by comparison. :)

I second the notion that the amp excels on the high gain side of things once you explore the possibilities in Fuse.

It can be complicated but it is a very flexible software used by amateurs and professionals alike. While there is stuff there that you may never use, it's basic usage isn't hard learn.

There are many YouTube tutorial vid's available, check them out here. Also there is a very helpful user forum here. They have a "newbieland" sub forum as well as several forums in non-English languages.

You'll probably spend more time figuring out how to configure your computer and an ASIO driver to get the lowest possible "latency" than you will learning basic recording in REAPER but you can get help for that too in the REAPER forums.

I would defiantly make use of newbieland for sure  thank you for all the links and explanation, once I get the amp (which I imagine to be during spring break or sooner..) I will have time to be constantly giving attention to guitar, amp, and REAPER(darn school!)

I don't know what DAW means, but I guess I learn that in newbieland to?
It's free for personal use right? I have a friend who said fuse is crap and the amp is terrible, hah and I came here and he still thinks otherwise :P Thank you :)
I will have to try and get my lazy bassist to learn it to  try is the keyword :P

DAW=Digital Audio Workstation :) You can get lots from it, and really the basics are not hard to grasp. You will be glad you took the time trust me...then like I said you will forever be comparing other programs shortcomings ;)

Yes it is free for personal use, and the basic lic is just $40....a steal! Fuse with Reaper works great...I have no latency issues, but you do need to learn how to use the basic Fender ASIO driver settings (just ASIO4ALL rebranded) to route input and output correctly. Fro example.....You have to set it up so that the USB device is enabled for input, and on my system my PC speaks are set up for output or monitoring. The folks on the Reaper forums are awesome....ask away they are really helpful.

Ignore the nay sayers on the Mustang Series and Fuse.....
