Hi I'm new to this forum. I bought the Mustang I a couple of days ago, I must admit it is a fantastic amp out of the box and with the computer capabilities it makes it one of the best amps I have ever owned! One of the reasons i bought the amp was the recording software that came with it, you can probably guess where im going with this, and if im asking a question thats been asked before im sorry, but after about three days of trying i still havent been able to record one single lick from the amp to the comp! I've recorded in the past but never using a computer, can some one possibly give me a step by step break down of how to link the amp to the computer and start recording tracks? I've watched the lessons but they dont seem to be giving me my answers. one of the selling points of the amp was the feature of recording and i cant work it out!!!

Thanks.

I'm not sure how with Abelton but I managed to easily record with both Audacity Beta version and Wavosaur. http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=47633&p=572350&hilit=wavosaur#p572350

Just check out tweakheadz.com, they have all you want to know, or need to know, about getting started with DAW recording.

I just got set up with the recording here earlier this week and it wasn't quite as straight-forward as I had hoped, but it's not hard, either. I'm a little disappointed that the manual doesn't address it more specifically.

First of all, I'm assuming you've installed Ableton. My next question is did you install the Fender ASIO Driver that came on the disc? That was my main problem...I didn't realize it didn't automatically install. I opened the disc up in Windows Explorer and found it in one of the folders...Extras maybe? Can't remember for sure, but it's not too hard to find.

Once you've installed that driver, you need to open up the Preferences in Ableton (from the drop down menu across the top). Then go into Audio and select the Fender ASIO. There is a video at this link for setting up the Audio Interface on a PC (also for Mac) for the GDEC, but this part is the same for the Mustang: link. Videos are at the bottom of the page.

At this point, the amps signal from the USB will be coming into Live Lite...though I think you probably need to arm a track before you can actually hear it (i.e., click on the Record icon that appears to the right side of the track...the square with the dot in it, it turns red when it's armed...and I'm not at home, I'm doing this from memory, and I've only done it a few times, so I may not have everything completely correct!)

Once you've got the audio set up, I'd just recommend using the tutorial in Ableton about recording. I downloaded the video...that took several minutes on a slower DSL connection, but was very helpful. It's really quite easy...once you arm the track for recording, you can hear the guitar...just tweak the tones and effects to your liking, then use the record buttons at the top to start recording!

Need more info first. Are you on a Mac or PC?

The Fender Mustang and Live 8 are not plug and play, you do need to set them up. If you do not have the proper drivers installed, or one may possibly be corrupted. I had an issue with the ASIO driver corrupting on my Win7 64-bit platform I had to go in and manually remove the driver from the system and reinstall it for the amp to even connect to Fuse properly. Make sure you have the Fender ASIO driver installed, its on the disk that came with the amp or you can download it off this site

Then follow the instructions posted above for setting up Live 8 and the ASIO driver and it should work for you.

Just checked this thing out. It's cool but it's not free, there is a trial period but after that you have to pay up. Unless I downloaded the wrong thing.

Holy crap!!!!! I finally figure it out. I got my mustang 1 in December and decided that I had to figure out how to record on ableton because of a few shortcomings in audacity, after 3 hours of messing around I have discovered how to do everything I need and want to do in ableton. I am proud of myself.

Anyways sorry for this kinda off topic post I just needed to say this. :D

I sure hope I can figure it out too, haha, I just got the Amp yesterday, and have only messed with the Ableton software a tiny but, but it leaves me scratchin' my head....their manual is pretty crappy...

I've never tried recording before, but it would be nice to try a few tracks, and see what I can do, next weekend maybe I can dive head first into it and see if I can figure it out....

Regarding the Reaper software I agree that it's incredibley easy (but by comparision anything is easier than Ableton just the 500+ page manual alone is mind boggling) but once you get it working it's really incredible. I know the Reaper software is just a trial, but I downloaded mine in January and I still am able to you use it, it starts off with the "evaluation version only" and counts down for 5 seconds before allowing you to open it, but I'm going on 4 months of use and it's still letting me use it with all the features. The Audacity Beta version is another great and simple version.

The thing that kept me from recording via USB was the simple step of going to Control Panel (assuming your on a PC) > Hardware and Sound > Sound then you come to the Sound Devices/Properties with tabs: Playback, Recording, Sounds, and Communications, click the recording. Assuming you have the Fender Drivers installed and Mustand connected your Mustang should be in the devices right click it to enable it and (at least in my case) the problem was solved. I'm parapharasing the answer that helped me out but after hours of struggling with this I know how frustrating it can be so if this doesnt help keep looking through the forums and make sure you've enabled the device through the control panel. If this doesn't work I've seen that Berkley is offering a full semester long class on how to use Ableton Live 8 ha (again another testament to how complex that program is)
