Does anyone else have this problem: Sometimes I turn the big preset knob and it "clicks" to the next position by doesn't change presets. I'll then have to turn it again to change the preset. No big deal if it's not something that will get worse and leave me stuck on a gig. Anyone else? Fender moderators care to chime in?

Thanks

Hi, new M3 user here...
And I must say I'm really happy with my Mustang III, starting discovering it !

I have the same "problem". When I'm too light on the preset knob it can't pass to the next settings. But with a little more insistence, it's Ok. A question of habit I think.

I've got one ordered but I don't want to have to repair it the knob. I might return it to GC.

vintagevibe, You are going to return your amp ? I was thinking more person had the same difficulty with the preset knob... Don't forget it's electronic touch / We are usually accustomed to direct resistor pots.
Anyway I'm very interested in your opinion if you try an another M3.

Thanks

And if there is a real problem with this knob, using a 4 buttons switch will only a way to work around the problem.

I'm going to call Fender first and get their opinion.

On the Mustang III the "Master Controller" is no really a control. I suspect it is a digital encoder. It will work differently than a rotary switch or a resistive pot. With the 100 presets the change from one to another seems to be variable, which may have to do with the encoding.
It took me a couple of days to get to the point I don't have to think about it.

And lets face it, after about 5 presets we don't use the next 95 much at all.

It's used for other things than just selecting patches. A digital encoder still has a stepped knob that shouldn't slip.

Fender has released a "beta" version of their latest firmware for the Mustang III/IV/V. See the top topic in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=52475

This update has a few fixes in it:

• Fix for forum discussed issue “Obnoxious Tail End Distortion”
• Increased Touch Wah sensitivity
• Improved preset switch time

It's up to you if you want to try this beta version of the firmware, but at a minimum, it looks like Fender is working on a solution.

The update helped the sensitivity of the preset selector knob on my Mustang II amp which was a bit touchy. It should help on the III-V's as well.

That's interesting, I've downloaded and installed 1.6 on my Mustang III but I did not notice a difference (and yes, earlier I did find the wheel was sometimes imprecise, but so far it has not bothered me greatly). I'll pay more attention and see if I can detect a noticeable change.

PITA

The problems doesn't really bother me but if it's a hardware issue that will get worse and end up needing repair in the future I want to exchange mine. It is really good to see Fender being so involved and responsive.
