Yes you can.they complement each other giving unparalleled control over all the channels and FX at the same time! It's how I run my mustang III V.2 . :D

It's my understanding that the main reason Fender outfitted the 3-5's with jacks for both footswitches, is to give you access to more quick access presets on the fly.

Using both, you will have up to 5 QA presets- 3 from the 4 button, and 2 from the 2 button. In this configuration, the 2 button is programmable- YOU assign functions to the two buttons.

You could have, say:

1) a bright, jangly or glassy clean.
2) a warm clean that you could "push" into a light crunch.
3) a crunchy rhythm tone.
4) a med gain lead tone
5) a boosted high gain screamin' solo tone.

It would be like having a 5 channel amp- each with it's own dedicated eq and fx!

I own a III for home use, and it fits the bill perfectly. Headphones for late night practice, low volume for daytime use when my neighbors are home, louder when they're not.

One note: the G12t-100 (M III) and G12T-75 ( M IV) are very different speakers. They're voiced quite differently, so I'd recommend trying both amps. I think one of the reasons the III sounds so good, is that tight, middy speaker.

What with the V2 sounding so good, and me being an unrepentant GASaholic, I've been thinking of getting a V2 M3- to run in stereo with my existing V1 M3! I imagine the stereo pan effect on my Flanger pedal would sound bad $@! this way. I'm not convinced that a 2x12 cab offers enough separation to really get full use from stereo fx.

Thank you for your time and thorough answers. I really appreciate it.

I'm leaning more towards the III than the IV but will have to try them both before I buy. Also I'm still waiting for some reviews to begin dropping in pointing out if there are any early production kinks that need to be straightened out.

If I understand correctly (I don't have the 4-button pedal yet), this is not a supported config. The QA's are set in the UTILITY menu, and there is only QA1, QA2, and QA3.

Sadly, that is correct. As it stands today, some of the functionality is duplicated between the two footswitches, and some desirable functionality is missing from any combination.

There have been past threads where suggestions have been made for firmware updates that would allow better integration between the footswitches.

For example, ability to configure 5 QA presets, or to configure the 2-button to step up/down between banks of 3 QA presets (each reachable instantly on the 4-button), or to link the 2-button mode to the 4-button's mode when used together, and allow the 2-button to control tap tempo and reverb.

PITA

A better combination is the M4 footswitch with the EXP-1 footpedal. The two button footswitch adds nothing if you already have the four button.

Personally, I would choose the MIV 212 over the MIII if the difference in cash is no concern. With solid-state amps, the higher wattage amps can still sound quite nice at home or even bedroom levels. The tonality you are getting in a Mustang amp is a "model" and the model is the same at any volume. But you will see improved tonality from the stereo speaker system in the 212 as opposed to the single 12, especially in the clean and chorus effects.

Not the case with an analog tube amp where the amp has to be turned up to drive the tubes to a saturation point to gain a pleasing distortion. Thus a 100 watt solid state is more comparable to a 15 watt tube amp. A 100 watt tube amp would be almost unusable at home sound levels!

Great info, thank you.
Hopefully I'll get the chance to try the new version of the MIV this week and decide if it's better suited for my needs than the MIII.

yes, both will work independently of each other. It all depends on how you have configured the foot switches.

the 4 button with the 2 button offers a very wide range of remote control functions

Mode 1 enables complete control over your quick access presets (QA1, QA2, QA3)
Hold the mode down, and it enables the tuner which is now visible from the foot switch.

In mode 2, you can navigate the presets via up/down, or up bank/down bank,

mode 3 runs your effects, (enable/bypass stomp box, modulation, delay)

the two button can bet set to enable/bypass the stomp box for the amp model in use,
(for example, take one of your clean settings, set a stomp box for OD and then you can turn on/off the stomp box as you would use a standard over drive pedal)

the second button on the 2 button can be set to control your delay's tap tempo setting.

there are other options but I find these settings the most useful/

I had a Mesa Boogie TA15 and 2 x 12 cab that I spent 1800 on and then did not care for
the sound at all. I lost 600 dollars trading and selling. I purchased a Fender IV v1 and while
I really liked it for most sounds, the clean channel sounds were so full of fizz, I had to return it.
I bought a floor model ( last in stock ) Vox AC15C1 and while I did like the sound, I missed
the twin speakers that I had in the Mesa Boogie and the Mustang. I traded that in for a AC15C2
and that has been pretty nice for me. I like the sound.
I recently bought a Fender Frontman 212R and I was able to hook up the speakers from the
vox head to the 212R speakers and have 4 speaker sound, and I liked it very much. The
212R has fantastic clean sound and I love that Amp !!!

Now that I see in two days that the new Fender Mustang IV V2 is going to be available,
Im really thinking about giving it a shot again, as the transformer has been upgraded and it
has gotten rid of the fizz ( from everything Ive read ).

I have to say that I wish I had known how great the 212R was, as I would have bought it
years ago.

I so look forward to reading things here about the new Version 2 IV mustang. I just know
Im going to buy one really soon.........

The volume on it can be turned down pretty low and still sound good, I wouldnt worry about that. The more watts, the better it will sound at low volume !!!!!!!!!
