Nope - no overdrive or fuzz in the effects - you can get that from playing with gain Vs. volume. The effects are pretty much what you'd run through your effects loop. Time based.

If you want to go from clean to crunch - find the appropriate sound (different amp setting in Green or Red or . . ) and use the foot-switch.
Or throw a dirt pedal on the floor and have at it.

Huh ??? ...sure it has TONS of effects ... including (Fuzz), (Fuzz Touch Wah), (Overdrive).. plus a shizzle load more.

Any Distortion pedal will work fine with MI/MII ... but an Overdrive and Fuzz pedal (will still sorta work, (our mileage varies)), but would probably be best suited with the MIII/IV/V Amps, going into there Effects Loop.

OK, my bad - since I'm using my pedal-board, I really haven't played that much with the effects . . . back to school for me.

Mo - No need for stepping up (unless you really want/need to) to a new amp. The Mustang takes dirt & overdrive pedals just fine IMHO, I've used several and had no issues with any of them.

The Mustang is a really nice platform for experimentation - so try what you already have or figure out (good luck with this) what sound you're chasing - I normally play through a Boss Blues Driver, set fairly low on drive just to get a little fur on it. But I don't want tons of saturation - you may.

Really? I never run OD in the effects loop, but always in front of the amp - or are the Mustang MIII/IV/MV's set up different . . . or am I missing something? Wouldn't be the first time - see previous post (HA)

Mo,
What do you use the amp for?, would be a good place to start - is this a practice tool for you? If so I'm not sure you need to worry about a larger or more powerful amp (yet) and for dirt, anything should work - I'm impressed at how these take pedals - but don't go overboard till you know what it is you want.

What style of music you play will help determine what kind of pedal you may want to look at.

True, It doesn't really matter, just (whatever our ears are telling us) ... but some people mention to use the OD and Fuzz boxes in an effects loop. Since these are modeling Amps, they already "maybe" have to much running up-in-front... so to lesten the load.. could help ur "tone"... but I've always run everything in front (i have no choice, I'm using MII) with a Byang Tonefancier OD-8 w/ Modtone Wah pedal and its behaving perfectly fine ... same as my Tube Amp.

cool, didn't know the M1 could take a pedal or two. i'll get a couple and experiment around. the M1 has a lot of various sounds for me to experiment with and at my current play ability it really suits me just fine. but a couple extra pedals to hack around a bit is gonna add some spice.

thx

heck, i'm just a beginner. it's my first amp so i use it to practice my lessons with and flip knobs about to see what sounds it creates. i was sitting the other day aways from the amp practicing and thought a pedal or two would be nice so i wouldn't have to get up and go to the amp every time i wanted to change something. i didn't realize those peddles you/others mentioned would work with this amp.

really, i don't need to go overboard, the amp is fine for me right now. upgrading the guitar was money/time well spent though.

what i like and what i can play now are way too different things: but what i like to listen too, and this is a short list, i lean towards blues (delta, appalachian, english elec blues), david gilmour sounds, spacy elec fusion, srv, shawn lane, etc, etc

i'm a beginner, so what i play are a lot of scales, small intro's, general techniques, etc., my teacher has me practice...

thx

In My opinion, The Mustang 1 is one of the best home practice amps I ever got at $99.00. I haven had a need to hook up any overdrive or distortion to this amp, and I haven't even hooked it up to my computer yet. ( running Linux... It won't work) anyway, play around with the Metal2000, supersonic, british 80' and American 90's. Lots of good overdrive and distortion in there with a Texas Spec. Neck pup. But what really sold me on it was the clean tones on '57 deluxe and '65 twin. this is one amazing little SS amp. Rock on. 8)

you're right on that, the price was great and for now has more than i need i guess. i may get a pedal later after what folks mentioned here. think for now i'll experiment with the M1 more and practice & save me money. thanks all for the input!
