Thanks PITA,
I'll digest that useful piece of help. I can see the basic logic behind it.
Hope the Mustang version is similar. How practical is the footswitch
in live use, as on a gig, where neat footwork is required for quick changes ?.
Any tips ?.
Jim

I may not be the best judge; my requirements are modest, and I'm not sure what your requirements are (are you asking about sonic quality or physical dimensions?), but it seems fine to me; button spacing seems to be about the width of a stompbox or so; I have no trouble navigating between them.

I can hear a slight hesitation (and a bit of a subdued pop [maybe more like a soft muffled click]) when jumping between presets during a sustained note, but that's at home volume with no other sounds. I don't know what it would sound like at concert volume accompanied by a band. Possibly in the middle of a song it would go unnoticed (I haven't yet experimented too much with this, especially at higher volumes). I also think I can hear a quarter-second or so where the sound of the new preset "ramps up"--it's particularly noticeable if the second preset is louder because you can hear the volume creep up when switching.

In the effects mode, the transitions seem more abrupt as I'd expect and (at least for the couple I tried) the effects seemed to cut in (or out) immediately when the corresponding button is clicked with no other artifacts. But, these have only been casual experiments, I have not listened very closely to a broad sample.

Hi,
Absolutely great run-down of the functions and their apparent quirks, PITA.
A review article in a mag. would'nt have been as detailed or honest.
Your experiences with the footswitch will give me a headstart - whenever I get mine.
The Mustang III version will probably be pretty similar. Once again, thanks Pitta.

From what I can tell, a few Dymo labeler stick-ons and I have made a virtual OEM Mustang III 4-button out of a G-DEC 3 30 4-button. Very lame of Fender to mislead us about it being incompatible.

er....correct! I did indeed mean Mode 2 - apologies for the confusion.
And yes, I do appreciate the theory shown behind the G-DEC - and therefore the Mustang - 4-button pedal....
My point was that if you couldn't remember your last up/down button click direction, was there another way of knowing whether your bank switch was going to raise 10 or down 10!

No, there isn't.

(I used "sort of" in my earlier reply since there is a way to tell while relying on memory--but you're right, other than that, there is no way to know for sure.)

Hi Pita,
Got an email to say there was a reply to this thread, guess it's
a late notice from Fender Forum, but it reminds me that I made
a suggestion to Fender that they could maybe use the unused
third part of the the 4 Button pedals display (I believe it was used
in the G-Dec version for some other indication) for an up/down
symbol as to which direction your next bank selection is facing.
However the latest revelations from NAMM with the Mustang Floor
and EXP-1 appear to be the direction it's heading.
No more Fizz - huh ! Happy New Year to all.
