Whats the difference between presets and amp models? Some of the presets in Fuse appear to be just amp models with no effects.

Looks like you answered your own question.

The no effect amp presets are in effect a preset, just a non-tweaked preset. If you want to be technical they should say 12 amp models and 88 tweaked versions of those amp models are stored on board.

A preset (pre-set) file is a collection of settings. It's generaly a text file where is written all the knobs settings positions :knobs settings, brigth swith position, footswich settings, effects, cabs settings, bias settings etc. etc.

Once such a file is saved it's called a preset. Fender FUSE use add the .fuse extension to its preset files. When you load such a file in your Mustang amp, via the FUSE software, all these settings takes effect immediatly on your amp and can be saved on the amp directly.

All the Mustang amps share the same 12 amp models. The III-V have more effects.

Here's for example the content of the file 00.fuse on my computer:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Preset amplifier="Mustang I/II" ProductId="1">

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. However, I thought the Mustang I and II only had 8 amp models, whereas the Mustang III/IV/IV have 12 amp models.

Yup, on board they (1&2) only have 8, but from what Ive read you can use fuse to access the other 4 amps that the 3-5 have.

At some point Fender may offer new amp types -- that is if it can be done via software or firmware upgrades (not sure). As it is, there is more than enough to handle and tweak with what is currently available. For me anyway.

I wish someone would make a dumble/two rock/ceriatone style setting. I love the creamy goodness in those amps. I am selling a telecaster and my valve junior to fund the purchase of a new mustang IV, so I would love to have this setting. over the summer, im building a ceriatone OTS 50w with a 2 12 cab. but I think the mustang will get used alot more.
