Just wanted to post a quick thanks to fine folks at Fender.

I have been gigging for years with a very nice 20 Watt (6V6) amp and it has served me well and while I'm not done using it, we had issues with space at a recent venue and needed to put my amp on a 4 foot tall busser's box.

For my amp to get to the sweet spot - it was far to loud and quite literally 'in your face' for one table - picked up a Mustang II and A/B'ed it to dial in as close a sound to my amp as I could. Truly amazing - really great string articulation that I hadn't encountered in any other modeling gear to this point.

I've now gigged it 5 times and haven't even used or changed any of the settings excepting turning off the effects (I've got enough of those on the floor).

Though there are amps on this puppy I'll probably never use, this is one remarkable box for the money - it works well enough with a mic in front of it and is so light I, for now, don't see the need for anything else.

Job well done!

I agree. It kills my Tube Amp anyday when it really gets down to FREEDOM  ..so what secret color and modeling preset did you settle on

*cheers btw*

It doesn't kill my tube amp, but it has proved itself worthy for gigging, which certainly surprised me.

I'm using the Red 57 for now.
I'm a hardcore 6V6 fan so it made perfect sense to me to try that model first.
It'll be interesting to see what the other Fender (as well as the Vox) amps will give me.

The down side to this could be much like my purchase of the Variax when it came out - found I really liked P-90's and now own 3 guitars with them.

The Mustang II is a great little amp - I bought mine the first day they hit the local GC. I've been gigging with it, too, using a Schecter C-1 E/A guitar. I invested in an A-B-Y switch box and use a Fender Acoustasonic Jr on the other side for an acoustic sound. The two amps give me great versatility at the touch of a button.

No, there aren't that many modeling guitars, but the sound of P-90 pups caused me to get a Reverend (with 2), swap out some Bucks in a Brian Moore and a put a Lollar in the neck position of my fave Tele, just so I could get that 'Honk' - love'em.

Great idea - if only I had enough room in the venues I play . . . . and the will to carry two amps in and out.
Was a time when I would bring an extension cab for my amp, but found much easier (lighter) to bring a mic and be done with it - I don't usually gig with my Variax, but when I do, I use an A/B box as well, but just run it to the PA for the Acoustic guitar sounds. A dedicated amp would be good though so I could sculpt my sound.

Hey MD,

I'm just a fool for carrying gear - I usually end up supplying the PA system, so what's another amp or two? I play smaller venues, too, a lot of the time and I frequently end up stacking my amps - the M II sits nicely on top of the Acoustasonic. I don't get to spread the sound out too much that way, but at least everything fits and I don't fire both amps up at the same time.

I also invested in a couple of those Rock & Roller carts, very helpful for getting a lot of gear in and out in a hurry, as long as you don't have to handle steps. :? I used to have to use a trailer behind the truck to haul my PA, but I've downsized now so everything will fit in the Silverado. I'm getting too old to be manhandling those 18" Peavey bass bins.

CRG,
I've got a Rock & Roller cart as well , , they're great and serve me well. The band leader is now responsible for our PA, so I'm off the hook unless we play a mid size venue. Then I'm asked to bring extra side fill speakers (Eon's), stands and a sub - I can still cram all that plus my guitar rig in a Mini Cooper Clubman - I've downsized to the max in a mini.
We do a few outdoor 'City Fest' gigs during the summer, since we're provided sound for those, I'll pack amps, guitars and pedals to the max and give'em fits.
