I'd switch them both out. The stocks might "say" Celestion but they are nothing like the Celestions of the old days. Go for two Tonkerlites. You'll love them.

I am a Swamp Thang enthusiast. I have replaced the Celestians in all my amps with the Eminence Swamp Thangs and the "Shrill is Gone". No more ice pick highs and it has a nice low end.

My issue seems to be the opposite with my Mustang IV. Don't have the shrill but it seems the stock speakers are boomier and not so tight in the bass (kind of flabby), and I have great pickups in my guitar that sound perfect through other amps. Crunch still sounds a little loose to me and possibly just don't have it dialed in correctly yet or need to experiment more with other cabs, bias, sag, etc. Cleans and leads are fantastic! Thinkin' the Tonkerlites might be a fit but will still call Eminence on monday to get their input. Wish I could get a hold of a Legend Modeling 12 to try. Can't find them anywhere used it seems! To bad.

Tried calling Eminence but they are closed today. Curious to know if they recommend the Tonkerlite for my Mustang IV. If they do, or another speaker...decisions decisions. Either replace both or just one to retain some of the stock sound. What do you all think???

I'd keep it stock, the way it is now. Fender picked the best speakers possible for modeling there different Amps, Cabs and Effects ... Another speaker will sound fine with a few models... but when it gets down to it, it "probably" wont be anywhere as good as what's already in there. With that said, I'll probably try a Tonkerlite one day myself

Yea, the current celestions for mass production is build and manufactured in China as is the amp. The older Celestions were manufactured in England. You can still find a few old ones on the ebay or in old pawn shop amps some of them are worth having.

However, you could continue to use the stock spakers to break them in, as they will loosen up and sound better over time playing at moderate to loud volumes. Plus, you don't void the warranty. The fender engineers went through a lot of research and development to design the amp and chose what they felt was the correct speaker to cover all the models in the particular amp.

Speaker replacement sould be done after 5 years.

What would a Tonkerlite be like in the II? Making it into a super lightweight amp would be nice.

I'm not sure, but I have a amp with a solid pine cabinet that is loud and it only weighs about 23lbs.

Yeah, some models may sound funky with a different speaker.

I know the MII's 'Special Design' speaker is really light. I should of weighed it, but I had nothing to weigh it with--and get an accurate read. The Tonketlite, hence the name, looks like it might even be a tad lighter, than the 'Special Design'. I should of grabbed one a while ago, but I kept hearing good things about Goverenors and Wizards.. only they weigh a ton !!! ..and I hear little difference over the stock speaker, so Tonkerlite may be the perfect match (ALL Around).

Cool! How do you guys break your speakers in? I've seen many ways. Music at moderate levels through amp for a couple of days or naturally as you play through it or other means?

I have a Mustang II and III and I placed an Eminence Swamp Thang in both. Sure there's extra weight but it's very manageable esp for the tradeoff for tone.

The eminence folks recommended the tonkerlite to me as well.... I'm going with tonkers, I've got a Marshall clone I'm running through the same cab and I just can't fathom the idea of a speaker with itty bitty magnets - yeah call me stubborn.

New owner here (as of yesterday) and I'm curious as to how the Tonker will sound as compared to the Tonkerlite. Right now I'm agreeing with you - 59 oz magnet vs a 4 oz magnet? Seems to be a no-brainer, so I wonder why Eminence is recommending the Tonkerlite instead?

Nobody here has mentioned Warehouse Guitar Speakers yet. A US-based company with excellent prices that has a number of Celestion and Jensen clones that many people like better than current production models from either company, and in some cases as well as the vintage-era speakers they are based on. They also have a few of their own models. They are getting great reviews.

I have their ET-65 (a clone of the Celestion G12-65) in a 1x12 cab and really like it. I'm seriously considering getting their Reaper 55Hz, which is a clone of the Celestion Heritage G12H-30 for the cab I use with my Marshall.

And if I decide to void the warranty and replace the speaker in my Mustang I, I'll most likely go with their 8" Champ clone...only $40 and I've heard one or two glowing recommendations for it!
