I replaced the Celestion in my Mustang III with a Emminence Governor 8ohm, that I had laying around. Got rid of some of the thrillness and warmed everything up nicely. It is also much more efficient than the Celestion and much sturdier. Have the Celestion gotten chincy, are they made in Asia now?
Just on the build quality alone I'm not surprised it sounds much better.

That's what I wanted to try is a Governor...but I'm fine with the built-in speaker..at least for the MII...Bet ur amp weighs more now eh.

Worth it :>)
Sound much more natural with a "real" speaker.

I have a Mustang III, based on the recommendation from Eminence, I used a Tonkerlite. They had said that was the most neutral sounding speaker and what they had in mind when designing it was a modeling application like the Mustang. They had said the Tonker is also good but the Tonkerlite is a tad better for modeling. I could not agree more!!! I love the sound with the TL!!! +1 for the swap. The Mustang III was already awesome and now for me it is thru the roof!!!

I posted about this elsewhere, but I wanted to chime in on the Governor. We've got a shop in town that has a "wall" of different speaker models (mostly Celestion, Eminence and Jensen) with front mounted speaker jacks - you just bring your amp in and plug into what you want. I demo'd a bunch of speakers using my Blackstar HT-60 (2x12 combo) and went home with a Eminence Governor and Cannabis Rex. I thought the Cannabis added a nice sparkle on top, but the Governor was far and away the best speaker I tried. Since then, I've loaded both these speakers into a 2x12 cab that I plan to use with a Mustang V head that's on order - I'll give a full report once I get this rig fired up.

BTW, when I picked out the Governor, the owner told me that was his best selling speaker - I actually went home with the floor model since he was out of stock. At least it was broken in ;)

It's always a possibility, that the Tonkerlight will pass the shrillness through, just like the Celestion. Modelers, and I've owned a few, tend to have "that" sound. Warming them up, always makes them more pleasing to me. They usually come with a neutral sounding speaker in the first place.
To each, his own, Let us know how it works out.

The eminence folks recommended the tonkerlite to me as well.... I'm going with tonkers, I've got a Marshall clone I'm running through the same cab and I just can't fathom the idea of a speaker with itty bitty magnets - yeah call me stubborn.

Hey this IS what I had laying around, and IT IS better than the OEM speaker. I trying to track down a Tonkerlite used(broken in :>)! ) and compare. I have another amp a Yamaha DG-80-112 that can take the Governor.
Let us all n\know how the Tonker-lite changes the sound.

you guys were right about the Tonkerlite. I like it better than the Governor even though it still a solid replacement.

One thing I'm finding out about this amp is that does really well at lower to mid gain stuff.
I've got a great patch using Metal 2000 with the gain set at 2 and the volume set to 9, and lastly adjust the master volume(2nd page with sag, etc) to taste(4-5 for me). Cut the sag to low and bias at -10%. This sounds outstanding with the new speaker.

I just switched out my Mustang III's Celestion G12T-112 with an Eminence Tonkerlite and it made all the difference in the world. ALL (and I mean all) of the fizziness is gone and so is the farting out. The notes are crisp, clean, loud and tight. NOW this thing sounds like an amp instead of a stereo speaker! I think they should just bundle the Mustang amps with Tonkerlites. They're amazing.

CUSTOM ALL THE WAY!

Remember to switch back the speaker if you need to use the warranty.
Hush hush, this may void the warranty.

Tried calling Eminence but they are closed today. Curious to know if they recommend the Tonkerlite for my Mustang IV. If they do, or another speaker...decisions decisions. Either replace both or just one to retain some of the stock sound. What do you all think???
