See if these videos help.

http://www.fender.com/support/articles.php?search=ableton&section=video

You can also look here for help.

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug08/articles/livetechnique_0808.htm

Read the 'Live Recording' paragraph.

I have the same problem ... either download and use Audacity (Beta) version or try this program here: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=47633&p=572350&hilit=wavosaur#p572350 or keep poking away at Ableton and hope for the best... Good luck.

I just made my first few recordings with my Mustang I amp using the USB and the Ableton Live 8 Fender Edition (which I'm assuming your using as well) and it took me a solid week of sorting through the 525 page PDF help document, but here is the "groundbreaking" discovery that led me to finally getting a recording. Assuming you have your Audio Preferences set up correctly you know need to learn the necessary activations/clicks needed to make a simple recording.
1. on the main screen select the audio track you want to record on in the vertical column (assuming your in the session view mode).
2. under that at the very bottom of your selected Audio Track column, below the Track Activator and Solo/Cue buttons is the Arm Session Record button (rectangle box with black circle in center), click it to Arm the track.
3. Now at the very top in the tray with the Play, Stop, Record, OVR, etc. click the Global Record Button (located b/t the Stop and OVR buttons).
- Heres where I got lost,
4. In order to start your recording you have to hit the Play Button just to the left of the Global Record Button, doing this starts your recording and you will notice a very thin line progressing from left to right just below the Play, Stop, Record buttons, this is the Overview which indicates how far along you have gone with your recording (obscure and ridiculous, I agree).
5. When done click on the Stop button which will stop the recording and any previous audio you may have had.
6. To see your recording in the traditional "clip view" either click on the track you selected in the vertical column or (and I just realized this) Right above your Mixer Selection where you had to Arm the track is a tile that should have some color associated with it and when you arrow over it the Info View will tell you this is the Track Status Display. Clicking on it should bring up your recording in Clip View along the bottom right of the screen. One possibility if this does not show your clip is (and I don't know why this is) but in the bottom right corner next to Show/Hide Detail Button (Arrow Up Icon) the Clip Overview is located there, clicking on it brings up the Sample Editor where you should be able to see it.

--This may be redundant but I didn't realize it, but because you are using an ASIO driver your computers speakers are disabled, so once I made a recording I couldn't hear it, but if you plug headphones in or any stereo that can be connected to your headphone jack you can hear that way.

This may seem a little long-winded or not even close to what you were looking for but I hope it can help somebody. I would say I'm pretty familiar with Recording Software having used Sony Acid, Adobe Audition, Reaper, Audacity, and probably a few more but I could not figure this out to save my life, and while there is probably a much better version of these steps somewhere in these forums I couldn't find it. And if anyone notices a flaw in my "foolproof" 6-step method ha, please point it out because like I said I'm new to this software and still getting my feet wet but after spendings hours trying to solve this little riddle I felt I had to share my findings to you good people who have helped me. So any questions/comments/scathing reviews; feel free to contact me. Or better yet if you want actually qualified advice call Ableton's Support Line located on their website, they were great based on my experience.
