Well I played a Must iv at the Guitar Center and I know I want one - I just sold my Blues Jr. that I've had for 8 yrs and I'm gonna replace it with either a iv or a v.
I have a 2x12 cab, but I would have to replace the speakers to handle the wattage (has Celestion vintage 30 and G12H in it). So I can't decide which to do yet:
1. just buy the Must iv (I would think that would depreciate a lot more relative to the Must v); or
2. buy the Must v, replace speakers in my cab (and sell the Celestions).

Slightly leaning toward the Mustang V and new speakers, but I'm still on the fence and I would like some opinions.

I have a Mustang V head on order - here was my rational:
1) If I bought a IV, I'd probably replace the speakers anyway - GT12P-80s are fine, but there are much better speakers out there... (I'm planning to use a Eminence Governor and Cannabis Rex for kinda of a low-end/high-end mix) Why pay for speakers you're not going to use?
2) I think a head and separate cab are easier to move around - in terms of weight. The IV with good set of speakers will be pushing 50lbs - I rather split the weight up. Just a personal preference...
3) My 2x12 cab is a custom job (Bluesbreaker-ish knockoff) that is easily configurable between open back and sealed...

I think you'd be happy with either one - I've got a Mustang III too (for rehearsals) and I just love it. Can't imagine how good these sound in stereo. Good luck!

My cab is custom too - 2x12 bluesbreaker style (in Red! - looks as good as it sounds).
Was thinking about 2 Tonkers instead of mix and match. The folks at eminence recommended Tonkerlites to me .... not so sure about a speaker with such small magnets, but they are supposed to sound great. I have a Marshall 18watt clone that I play through it, and frankly I'm not that enamored with the Celestions

The Mustang iv sounded great and I love stereo. I tend to think that the amp will sound better through a better cab with better speakers. That is a lot of amp for $300 and it sounds great.

I live in Greensboro, NC - we've got a shop here that has (literally) a "wall" of speakers of every make and model you can imagine - something like 60 speakers mounted with a front facing 1/4" jack. You just bring your amp in and patch into any speaker you want to hear - amazing how different some of these models sound...

Anyway, I finally chose the Eminence Gov & Rex - I really like the way they sounded together. That said, the Tonkers were definitely in the running - I think they'd be a good choice. Eminence is really making some awesome speakers today - really impressive to my ear.

just remember that ANY COMBO will shake the hardware and circuit boards. Over time that could become a problem. That's why I like the cab / head configuration. Plus it's easier to buy a different cab or another one to change your sound.

If you really wanted small, get the Mustang V head and a 2x12 stereo cab on wheels. But the Mustang V head at the $299 anywhere price can't be beat. 150watts stereo?! Man! This thing blows away the Pod. And sometimes GuitarCenter has coupons you can put towards your amp head. Just sign up for the email alerts and watch for weekend sales.

I have a couple of evm-12l 8 ohm speakers, do you think those would work with the head?

Heads and cabinets are cool - Although the MUSTANG IV reminds me of the Twin.
If you want a "compact" set look at the size and build of the current Fender double 12 for the Bandmaster. At 150 watts total you need a really strong cabinet - 1" plywood" at least - to take the drive and give your speakers a good home. Don't skimp or it will sound horrible. I used 1" MDF (really dense speaker cabinet material I had built some subwoofers out of) for a dual 12", but I can push almost 300 watts out it without breakup.

If you do it yourself, figure about $200 for everything when all is said & done - corners, casters, handles, hardware, tolex and speaker cloth. Check out Parts Express for the bits and pieces. You can by "flatpack" ready to build kits for cabinets if you don't want to tackle the cutting out process.

The EVM-12l's should be more than adequate, but they especially need a good box. Just wire each one up separately with it's own jackplate and jack, and run the cables to each speaker from the head. Real KISS stuff.
