I am a true fender fan and all my guitars are fender. I currently have a Blues Jr, but I want a modelling amp for ease and quickness of different sounds. I am currently waffling between a Line 6 Spider IV 75 or 120 and the Mustang III or IV.

Primarilly I am looking for quality of sound and features. One feature of the Spider I like is the pitch control. Do the Mustang III and IV amps have pitch control?

Also, I like the looping and expect fender will come out with this ability. If so, will it be a firmware update, or is there some hardware issue here that would preclude this?

Also, any comparisons of sound quality would be helpful.

Thanks!

Marc

L6 is getting panicky with the Mustangs kicking in their stall. They've quickly gone to instant rebates on their Spider IV line. Selling em off quick before players realize how awesome the Stangs are for the money.

Not sure what a pitch control does but I'd love to see a Looper added .. even a ten second one....those pedals are so expensive!!! lol

I was in the same boat.....wondering which to buy (Spider or Mustang). I've been a big fan of the Line 6 stuff for a long time. I've used the GuitarPort for practice and recording for years and gigged with a POD X3 Pro half stack for a number of years. They've got good stuff but I wondered how the Mustang would compare. So I went to GC and sat with the M-IV for a little while and was completely blown away by the clean amps. They are really good. The dirty amp sounds and effects rock too. So I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did. I'm sure I'd have been happy with the Spider, but I'm really digging my Mustang.

I tried the Spider Jam which has a looper. I thought the tones of the Spider Jam were harsh, robotic and sterile. I bought a Mustang II, which doesn't have a looper, although this function can be acheived similarly with using Abelton and Fuse. The MII clean tones are imppecable and I can get some good tones using the Marshall amps with some fiddling. Not sure of your intentions but, with hundreds of backing tracks and presets being posted regularly, you can't go wrong with a mustang or GDEC (has a looper). This forum and Fender's technical support is tops as well. And, considering the fact these amps' firmware and Fender Fuse can be, and have been, upgraded is a huge factor to take into consideration. Good Luck!

I think I'm gonna grab a IV any day now ... but do the G-DECs really have a looper built-in? ..I never knew that..

Yea, they do. Here's the link:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... se-sampler

You get approximately 30 seconds in high quality mode and approximately 2 minutes in low quality mode which doesn't sound too bad. You can save your loops on the SD card. It's a great feature.

Holy.. I never knew that ... God, I wish the Stangs had that now...cuz I can't stand starting up a backing track in Fuse ..or changin CD's or USB stick with the Stereo to play along with ..i'm super lazy lol..I'd rather do my own thing on the fly and play to it..I really should invest in a loop pedal or G-DEC :)

You record in Wavosaur don't you? Just lay down a rhythm and loop it. Looks pretty simple in Wavosaur.

I use Audacity sometimes to loop short backing tracks like the ones on the Fender Fuse site. Hold down shift, hit play and jam away!

I'm somewhat the same way. I researched the heck out of the GDEC and was going to go with it after I saved up enough money. It didn't work out — too many car problems — so I got a Mustang. You could turn your Mustang into a GDEC though. I haven't tried this but here's my idea/theory. Get a Digitech Jam Man Solo ($199) which has 99 looping slots and has SD card capabilities (same as GDEC 3s). Load all of your favorite Fender backing tracks on it using it's free software, use a 1/8 or 1/4 cable and connect it from the Jam Man's output to the Mustang's 1/8 AUX input (you may need a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter depending on the cable you use) and go to town. To record a loop using your Mustang, just record to the Jam Man using the Mustang's headphones output. Similarly, I tried this using my Boss RC 2 Loop station and it works. However, I only have 11 available slots and no SD card capabilities so it's a pain to load backing tracks since I have to record them. So, it's trade-in time for the RC 2.
