I connected my Mustang with Garageband and it is working. Unfortunately there is a big delay between the time when I picked the string until I can hear it over my PC. - It' s almost unusable

No issue at all with Amplitube Fender edition. Almost no delay at all.

I would appreciate any help.

Amplitude uses the ASIO driver which resolves many latency's ... Are you using Garageband with ASIO4ALL ?, else you may need to add more RAM/Memory to the PC or get a decent Audio Interface like M-Audio FT--if the sound-card is a little weak, or just try lowering the sample rate in ASIO preference settings, only you might start getting pops and clicks in the recordings.. if its to low.. but it should help w/ latency.

aLinux,
thanks for the reply, but I am using MacOS 10.6. As I understand MAC uses CoreAudio instead. And I would assume that Amplitude also uses CoreAudio on the MAC. As I understand ASIO4All is for Windows systems only.

Yep.

But! Explain me how GarageBand can run on a PC :?:

Are you up to date with FUSE and Firmware version?

Hey Guys,

Latency is usually cause by high buffer settings. Garageband does have a buffer adjustment option in the Audio/MIDI GB Preferences window. The options are Maximum, which gives you a larger buffer (more latency) and Minimum (smaller buffer, less latency). Please verify that this is set to Minimum.

I just want to let you know that I'm using my Mustang 3 with a 3 week old mac mini with 4GB ram and Garageband. It worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it in. There is no latency. I've been recording regularly since I bought it without any problems. I also use the M3 with my Windows 7 laptop using Reaper and that also worked perfectly from the first time I plugged it in. I'm not an expert on this stuff but I'm guessing it has something to do with your mac. If you are still having problems, I'd be happy to take a look at my settings and pass them on to you. Maybe it's something simple. Good luck.

I changed the slider in Garageband as Loren proposed. Now it's much better - though the first hit of the string sounds terrible distorted / crunched - but then it gets normal - until you make a pause - the first hit after the pause again sounds terrible distorted / crunched.

Are you hearing that sound out of the amp's speaker or out of Garageband.

So it sounds like only the recorded signal is affected. The distortion you're describing kind of sounds like the crunch you can get if your buffer settings are too low for your system. Also, do you have any plug ins inserted on that track?
