I really appreciate the Mustang III and it has a lot of features that would be useful for me. However the additional size and weight is less welcome, so I'm not sure it's worth the extra hundred overall.

I was thinking of getting a combo of Mustang II and HD500. I would mainly be using the HD500 through the Mustang II's aux in, but would use the Mustang II for the Fender models.

The Mustang II is 10lbs lighter than the III(unless someone wants to correct me) making it much more feasible to take to gigs.

I'm torn either between this or just flat out getting a Tiny Terror. The Tiny Terror is more expensive and does less, but it's also on sale and I might not get another chance to get the Combo this cheap(never seen one going second hand locally). It also does the vintage fuzzy kind of tone I like quite well, as well as being capable of higher gain. The TT actually sounded good at bedroom volumes, but of course I'm not going to get the most of it, especially not the signature squishy Orange tone when I can rarely crank it in an apartment. I might be better off just getting the Character series pedal or one of the other Orange emulating pedals, that have more options.

For me, the HD500 is something I really want because I hate the limitations of my M9 but love some of the effects - 24 user patches is a bit $@!&, sorry.

What should I do?

Mustang II + Eventual HD500
Just HD500 and some kind of keyboard amp
Mustang III
Tiny Terror + Eventual Mustang II

?

What killed me about the Mustang II though was the lack of low gain Marshall tones. Intheory the Supersonic should be close enough, but it was too "rounded off" in the high end.

I can't really afford to wait for the III and use that with the 500, sadly. But if I end up liking the II an awful lot I may be able to trade up to the III eventually.

I'd just get a MIII & be done with it. Yeah, it does weigh more that a II, but it won't be heavier than the MII + hd500 combo.

Also, with the MIII, you have the option & running a future outboard unit into a 1/4 loop return & not a less-robust 1/8 aux jack. Plus, that way you free up the aux jack on the MIII for an mp3 player/backing tracks, etc.

Oh - just realized you can't wait for the III. How long until you can get one ?

I don't know when they're getting them in, but they say it won't be for a while. Also, the Mustang II will be staying at home except for jamming with other guitarists. I'd only use a lot of those tones in a band situation. The HD500 is as much a replacement for the M9 as anything(more effects at once, more user settings etc.).

By the time the III comes in the sale will be over sadly. and the III + HD combo would be quite heavy indeed.

Honestly I was considering just getting the Mustang I and giving it to my Dad when the III came out - he needs a good amp. But the speaker was pretty awful to my ears.

I look at this way ... for myself .. The MII fits me welll.. but I don't think mine would cut it for jamming (40w should ..but its a quiet 40 to me).. the MIII will definitely be a better choice .... since you're jamming out ...plus it has the celestion speaker, effects loop, middle tone control .. LCD editing, waay better footswitch..and some killer fender presets by the sounds of it. I'd try and pass on the MII deal ..they might just be moving them out fast.. and will probably come out with LCD versions of MI/II soon as stock inventory runs dry .. these Amps are maturing quite fast.

After playing a Mustang III last weekend, I'm kicking myself for getting the MII - feel like I wasted good money. Now, in my defense, the MIII wasn't announced at the time I bought my MII, but I still feel a twinge of buyer's remorse everytime I look at it. The tones are just so much better on the newer models - far superior to the MII IMHO. I've order a Mustang V to use with a custom stereo cab I have and will probably sell my M2 very shortly. I realize the M3 is an extra $100, but that buys you a ton over the M2.

my .02

and if you're really sold on the M2, let me know and I'll sell you mine for a sweet price! :P
