The problem is that when I installed a M-Audio pci card and I try to record my guitar through the Fender Mustang usb with Ableton. I just cannot find a configuration which would enable me to monitor the Ableton/vsti instruments and record at the same time. To be able to record something through the Fender usb, I have to disable the M-Audio.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi charvette,

Are you sure that the M-Audio driver is multi-client aware? Lots of drivers for dedicated audio interfaces aren't able to be used in conjunction with other drivers and other audio hardware.

No I'm not sure at all about the m-adudio 2496 cards multi-client abilities (it has asio drivers though). I don' think that I'm going to need the m-audio card at all because what I'm basically doing is using abletons (and vsti) instruments and record guitar. And all that worked well with Fender/Asio and computers own soundchip.
What kind of a interface would you suggest? I need to use the Ableton (and vsti) instruments and record guitar so I need to be able to monitor the virtual instruments while recording guitar (Mustang Amp).

Windows (whatever version) only supports ONE ASIO driver at a time. You must disable one before loading another. I do believe Mac's can do multiple ASIO's; however, I'm not a MAC user so perhaps others will jump in!?

What point is there to have a Fender asio driver when you cannot monitor other synth or recorded audio tracks or how is this suppose to work?

Hey Guys,

Charvette - You should be able to monitor and record using Ableton although you'll have to use your computers soundcard as the playback device. Are you saying that you can't do both?

Bo - ASIO is a Windows only protocol. Mac's use Core Audio which does support multiple devices.

I manage now to record with my M-audio 2496 own asio driver and Mustang connected to the sound card from the amps headphone output. I have¨not tried the same configuration yet with Fender asio. Would there be difference between Fender-asio-usb recording compared to my way of recording (through headphone output)?
I need to be able to hear (in Ableton) the midi tracks and record audio same time.

The problem is that you're using two different audio interfaces with two set of proprietary drivers. I like to keep things simple. The way you have it set up now is that way I would set it up. It's nice that the Mustang has a USB inteface built in but if you already have a dedicated audio interface, I would use that and just feed the Mustangs audio to one of it's inputs.

The MIII, IV, and V have an effects send that can be used as a 1/4" line level direct out.

Thank you for your answer. I may be doing something wrong with my routing etc. But it works now. I am going to compare the usb-recording and headphone-output-recording though. And I am definetly going to buy the III because of the display...
By the way the Fender asio driver works nicely with my few years old laptop/ableton which I use only with software instruments (I record with a new table top).
