Just unboxed an MI and upon power-up there's an audible 'tck' sound.

Also, when I shut it off, there's an even louder *pop pop* noise.

Is this normal ?

No

When you light, or that you turn out your amp, you must set the master volume to zero.

Hey Electric I,

Do you notice the sound when the master volume is down?

Loren - master at zero makes little/no difference. Jeannot - thanks for your input as well.

Same thing here. Master volume all the way down (I've always done this when turning on an amp)

hmm ..mine is dead quiet ..with master volume OFF .. Maybe it has something to do with
the 3 prong ..2 ground cord into Wall socket ..or perhaps a defective Amp.... hard to tell.

I can't say I have ever had a solid state amp that did'nt make pops and clicks powing on and off. More likely on of account of your homes power than something with the amp. But try your amp somewhere else or on a different circuit in your house to see if there is a difference. Though it may just be the nature of SS amps.

I forgot to add that I have a SS Bass amp I use for practice with my bass and it does the same thing. IIRC, the Marshall SS I used to have also made a pop when turned on and off.

aLinux - no difference. Good thought though.

denisk - same here. Have a vox da5 & does the pop thing as well.

Funny, I had both a II & a III home to test drive & neither one of them made any noise when turned on/off. Sounds like an issue with the MI only.

Possible future firmware fix ?

Regardless, I love what fender's doing with their modelling & the mustang is a blast to play. So is my scxd. You go fender.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I thought I read its making popping sounds while you(s) were playing (yes I'm over-tired here lol).. if it only happens when you turn the Amp on/off ..that's totally normal depending on which preset its on and it could have to do with how the home is wired ..as long as its not making strange ticks & pops while playing.... I wouldn't worry its defective. All my Amps to date did the same thing ...
