Hey guys,

I have the GDec3...Wondering how the Mustang is vs the GDec3?

I like being able to use Jam Tracks on the GDec3, but the Presets are Meh...

Anyways, I noticed the a lot of the updates on the FUSE site are for GDec and Mustang...are they relatively the same as the Models, just the GDec has more bells and whistles or what?

Thanks for any help.

I bought the GDEC 3 15w when it came out. I was really excited about the jam tracks, the fuse software and the amp models and presets that would be on it. I watched the videos on it and was really excited to make the purchase.

The amp was as cool as promised, but...
The fact that there were not separate EQ Knobs on it as well as a lack of many controls was difficult. Also the presets were waaaay over the top with too much reverb, delay or effect on almost all of them, and all needed to be tweaked.

As for the Mustangs. I bought the I for my son and the III for myself.
If I had a choice between the GDEC 3 and the Mustang I, I would still want the Mustang I, just because the amp models are better, the presets are better and everything is easier to tweak than on the GDEC 3.

The Mustang III is like a dream come true to me. There are more amp models. The Models sound better. The speaker is FAR better than on the GDEC 3. The LCD screen is better and more straight forward for tweaking the presets and creating new sounds. You still get the Fuse community to download sounds.

THE ONLY DRAWBACK on the Mustang III vs, the GDEC 3 for me was the backing tracks and the SD card recording and playback.

If you have a computer plugged into the Mustang III, you don't need either of these options. You can used the bundled Ableton software to record, or a million other recording software options.

I have ended up taking some backing tracks from sites online (there are tons of great free backing tracks all over the internet) as well as some tracks that I have stripped the guitar parts off of using a Korg software and have them on my iphone which I plug into my Mustang III. My backing tracks are better than most of the GDEC stuff, and my guitar sounds are far better on the Mustang.

About the Mustang III
The Sounds on this amp are so good. The vintage sounds and tone are really amazing as well as the modern rock tones. I have tweaked some sounds and absolutely believe that I am having more fun playing guitar than ever before.

As I said it the GDec3 forum...

The real nice thing about the G-DEC3 is the presets are matched to the tracks. It really opens your playing up to other styles. Before the G_DEC3 I have no idea how to do a country sound or play country, but have had great fun jamming to country tracks with the country presets.

Of course the mustang is way cheaper and as paztormike says you can still play backing tracks through the mustang either with a laptop or via the aux in.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got the Gdec from my son and gonna mess around with it the next couple days and then go try the Mustang out.

Read your review of the Mustang III Mike and it was pretty convincing, especially after you mentioned being able to get a convincing Ty Tabor tone. King's X is my favorite band and the reason I play (or try) guitar.

I have my strat beside me now and my Ty Tabor RGX-TT signature Yamaha on the wall :)

I will definitely want your preset info on the "Ty tone" if you don't mind sharing

I had a different experience with the Mustang.

I had bought the mustang one and was not happy with the presets and the the three banks of 12 ( or whatever it is ) drove me crazy..The distortions were very noisy and I could never get the sound I wanted. The cleans were very good though. I know everyone is finding these differently, so it is an individual thing.

Now, the G Dec 3 thirty not only has matching backing tracks to each preset , but combine that with Fuse tweeking, SD card for added Backing tracks, and the G Dec 3 Thirty has a seperate Tweeter aside from the main speaker ( to be fair, I am compairing against the Mustang 1 ) I found the sounds of of the G Dec much better. I can play right thru the speakers of the G Dec with the Band tracks ( I could not do that with the Mustang 1 ) Not to mention the "Fun Factor" playing with the Backing tracks.
Again, I paid over 300 Dollars for the G Dec, Vs 99.00 for the Mustang One.

Now, for those of you that want to have the Gain, Bass, Treble, on the physical amp, G Dec does not have that, but the controls it does have are more than enough for me with the Presets. The rest I use in FUSE anyway.

To me, the G Dec sounds much clearer and better to me , the ability to use the various Timbres, Stacks , Full Body, Razor edge , etc is really cool. so may sounds

Also, Hal Leonard is coming out with various artist SD Songbooks designed to work with G Dec , and for me that is really a cool tool for learning and practicing.
Don't get me wroong, the Mustang is a steal for 99.00 bucks, but just my preference is the G Dec for what I want to do and how i like the sound.

I hooked up my Zoom G2 amd on just one setting, I managed many sounds due to the ability of Fuse to run not only the Various Amps , but also the various Timbres in a single preset.

You really have to try them both and see what works for you, and what sounds the best.
The best thing to do is bring your guitar in to a Music store or try a simalr guitar on the amps. The guitar can make a difference as well.

Oh man! I would love an RGX TT. It's still on my list. I loved the Red ones.

I have a fender strat, a couple of squiers and a Yamaha AES620 which is one of the guitars that Ty used after the RGX.

I don't have the amp with me right now, but...

Some of Ty's older tones sound great with the SuperSonic amp with different levels of gain, compression and even overdrive.

I got some great Dogman type sounds out of the American 90's amp too.

I am going to tweak them a bit more and post some to FUSE with identifying Tags when I get a chance. Might be a week or two before I have the time to really get tweaking though.

Keep Rocking the King's X!

Hey guys.....

I would love to hear about the Ty Tone on the Gdec.
I have the origional Gdec 30 and would like to hear if your settings will work for that.

The way I get the Ty tone is with the gear he used....
Here is my rig:
1983 Strat Elite - Lab Series L7 amp - Alesis Midi Verb - Alesis MEQ = Spot on Ty Tone.

The Gdec is alot easier to tote around if the sound is there???
Thanks,
Mike

I use a Mustang 5 with a Marshall 4x12. I was too lazy to carry it the other night and took my g-dec 15w to a jam session. The G-dec will get pretty loud so i figured I was alright...

However, I found the G-Dec didn't have much substance when I cranked it over 9 - which I had to do using my loudest preset - to keep up with the drummer...

Volume wise G-dec .(using preset 36 with some mods.will equal preset 67 on the M5 at volume 4+.

The volume was there but the substance wasn't. The Mustang V has also replaced the G-Dec as my prac amp because it's sound is controlled so well that it sounds great on 2.5. Amazingly, I paid the same amount for the M5 head as I did for the G-Dec.

G-Dec is a great little amp - I've never regretted buying it. If you don't need the big stuff G-Dec to me is superior to the others including Line 6. (I know many dispute that - ok...) For me now though - I use it to play band tracks and metronome.

Its hard to put these two amps against each other, yes they are both great amps but both kind of appeal to two different types of players in my honest opinion. The Mustang III and up is an extremely versatile amp, it has all the modeling features like the G-Dec and possibly a bit more dare I say? But it does lack the ability to store the back tracks like the G-Dec, for me the back tracks in the G-Dec wasn't really a selling feature especially for the added cost of about $100. If I want a back track I will plug my ipod into my Mustang III and BLAMO insta-back track. I am confident enough in my Mustang III that I would probably use it for a small gig; whereas the G-dec looks more like an amp to mess around with in the garage jaming with buddies. It all depends on what your looking for though, I went into my local music store eying up the Line 6 Spider IV 75W amp, after talking to the head guitar guy there he pointed me to the Mustang line of amps, I checked out the Mustang IV they had on the demo floor and utterly loved it; however it was TOO stinking loud I mean we turned that thing to like 3 and I was surprised, so I opted for the smaller 100W Mustang III and well I think its definitely WAY better then the Line 6 I was eying especially for about $150 savings.

Hello,

My Mustang II purchase was an impulse buy during a "March Madness" sale. I had heard of the GDEC, never tried one. I already had a Roland Microcube, but wanted something that I could take to jam sessions. I also have a Roland Micro BR which is great for recording and playing backing tracks.

I am very satisfied with the sound of the Mustang II and FUSE. It absolutely blows the Microcube away, though it still has it's place (not even in the same class to be compared, really).

I would think that if you wanted a small amp with the extra features that the GDEC provides, then that would be a good fit. For folks who have these capabilities with other gear, then the Mustang would definitely be the way to go (especially if higher poer is desired).

honestly, I bought the G-dec because a friend had one. He also had little Line6 so I got to play both. If I'd known about Mustang I'd have bought a III probably. Glad I didn't. G-Dec was great for me and lead me inevitably to the Mustang V.

Fender seems to be on a roll just now.
