Hey Kidcity,

Raising the channel volume and lowering the Master volume is the best way to get a hotter signal into your DAW. That is pretty much all that can be done prior to recording to boost the signal.

Are you using Logic 8? Keep in mind that the Mustang's are input-only devices. If there are separate drop downs for input and output devices in Logic, the Mustang will only appear on the input drop down. Logic 9 has separate drop downs but Logic 8 does not.

Yeah i'm using Logic 8.
I read what you suggested about aggregate devices and I can now get a signal into Logic but after a few seconds playing I get lots of crackling noises which continue as I play.

Any thoughts?

Try and raise the buffer setting in the Audio setup window. It sounds like it may be set too low.

New user here, and reading through some of the forums trying to figure out one on my issues and noticed that I may be able to help other new users with something I had to struggle with as well:

What I figured out: When recording in garageband I noticed that the recording level was really low (as others in this thread are referring to). After messing in fender fuse (which I also had opened along with garageband), I noticed if I clicked on the "Advanced Amp" in the upper right of the fender fuse application that there was a "USB Gain" knob buried in there. Turning up that knob increased the recording volume in garageband.

What I am having trouble with: When recording in garageband with the USB connection from my Mustang III it is hit or miss. Mostly miss unfortunately. I find that I get a loud burst of white noise, lagging audio that "catches up" sometimes. But the white noise usually only happens at the beginning of the recording. I use an M-Audio Firewire Solo on a 2010 imac. My latency is set average and I have had no issues with any other recording software (guitar rig 5, amplitube 2, garagebands own amps, etc...). And I have patch 2.4.1 or whatever the newest is that I downloaded within the past week or so, too lazy to leave this forum to look again at the exact numbering, but it is the newest, I'm sure of it.

I really like the sound of the amp recorded through USB (when it does work). I did a recording of guitar rig 5 and of the mustang III through USB and took it in to work to let my fellow guitar players and non-guitar players listen and compare without telling them which was which. It was odd, the non-guitar players liked the guitar rig 5 sound, all of them. And the guitar players (3 guys) all like the mustang sound. Very odd, we must be trained to like a certain "sound" after playing all of these years :P.

Anyway, if anyone gets help from what I learned, awesome. And if anyone could help me with my noise, lagging issue, I would greatly appreciate it. I did read on here that others were having the issue as well but plugging and unplugging USB cables and reinstalling my operating system are not options I'm willing to do every time I want to record with my mustang, I'll just use guitar rig 5 instead as it works flawlessly every time, all the time. I really want my mustang III to work that way as well cause I really like it!

Hey Raven,

USB Gain was added in firmware version 1.8. However, if I was using an external dedicated audio interface like a FireWire Solo, I wouldn't bother with any of that. Using multiple audio interfaces is rarely a good idea. Your best bet is to connect the FX send on your M3 to an input on your interface. That way your only using the FireWire Solo.

The USB recording feature on the amp was implemented because most people don't have a dedicated audio interface.

Not necessarily true. I use Digital Performer 7 and it comfortably supports multiple audio interfaces. Currently I'm running a MOTU 24IO and a Presonus SudioLive 16.4.2 simultaneously.
