Hi Loren & Pita,

Are you talking about the Noise Gate in the Fuse Advanced Amp utility ?.
Which amp selections are giving the trouble and why is a Noise gate needed
in the first place ? We are talking about clean Fender sounds here, or have
I got it wrong ?. The Upgrade appears to work fine for my Mustang III and
I have'nt touched any Noise Gate settings - I'm using an Epiphone Sheraton II with
Humbuckers. The only unintentional distortion I get is if I use the Gain above 3.5 with
full guitar volume. The old amps never knew a Gain control - is it a substitute for
the old High and Low inputs ?.

Thanks for the Update improvements.

Regds , Jim

I've noticed with my strat with the noise gate off the hum is so loud that the amp becomes unusable. My other amps are no where near this.

I have noticed that this amps input is way WAY more sensitive than my other amps where I need to keep my guitar volume half way and not full. Could this all be related?

Maybe it's just me...

Yes, I was.

Skimming back to the beginning of the thread, yes, it looks like most folks were talking about clean sounds, but in my case I found the most annoying crackle with the Metal 2000 and American 90s models (the #99 and #98 stock presets, basic amp model alone, for example). If I hold a note--particularly the low two or three strings (E, A, D)--the crackle creeps in as the plucked note diminishes in volume.

I'd try to upload some clips if anyone has suggestions for a good host for such uploads.

I think since it's a cheap amp it's always going to be noisy sadly. Really wish the noise gate was more versatile though. It should be able to go strong enough to use as an effect IMO.

Thanks Pita, - for the info.

I usually use a clean tone - Country/Pop/Jazz, and only distortion
for live solos - so the Update suited me fine. I'm beginning to think about the noise
gate thing and can see why it's needed as all noise, good or bad poses a problem
for the input system. I'll be watching progress in the thread with great interest.

I'll have to just "pick 'n' learn" , as usual.

Jim

Box.net is a good place for that. You get plenty of free space for uploading songs and song clips.

I feel for you guys who still suffer from the tail-end distortion. I don't know why the update does not solve the problem for you, but I hope you will eventually be able to get yours fixed.

It was very noticeable with my MII, for both cleans and overdrivens, and although I really dug the amp's overall sound, I still felt the tail-end distortion was a big drag on the sound because it hurt some of the amps to the point they were write-offs to me. (IMO, this was a major black-eye against Fender in its big leap into the SS modeling field.)

However, after the update fix it sounds wonderful, and I love the amp now more than I can say. The sounds are now exactly what I was looking for in an amp, with all the modeling amps resonating perfectly (some even sound just like a tube amp played with pick dynamics). My MII is now perfect---it blows me away and makes me play; and my two guitars both love it, one a Fender Strat (MIM w/DiMarzio pups), the other a Greg Bennet Torino (an excellent stock SG facsimile).

Anyway, congratulations and thanks to all on the Fender Team who helped in tackling AND solving this major glitch, and for accomplishing it in such a very short time! You are the best! :D

miii owner here.

i updated to 1.6.4 and on a clean amp setting with a sustained note you can still hear the fizz but it is reduced from v1.5.

it's funny because if you hold the note - the fizz tails off as if you were reducing the frequency on a low pass filter or wah pedal- this is especially noticeable on the bass strings.

truth be told i can reduce this fizz post recording but still - it is annoying.

though i'm not complaining too much. i paid £218 for a amp that sounds twice that amount and to have usable fx too.

I updated to 1.6.4 on my Mustang III and I can still hear the fizzy decays as well. I guess it's not a big deal at low volumes or if you typically play with heavy distortion effects, but the fizzy decays are still noticeable on clean settings, especially with the volume up. At lower volumes I can minimize the fizziness by using the noise gate and turning off the cab modes, but I can see how it can get to be annoying. I read that some people actually like that fizzy effect, but to me it just sounds like a digital artifact. Definitely not what I expect playing clean. I really wish there was a squeaky clean channel on the Mustang III or at lease a Jazz Chorus clean amp model, but I guess I'd have to get one of the Roland Cubed for that.

Still, these amps are a lot of fun to experiment with. Been running my OD and fuzz pedals in front of the amp and my modulation, delay, and reverb pedals though the effects loop. Takes a bit of tweaking with the amp model settings, but you can come up with nice sounds with the Mustang III. These amps have a lot of potential and are a real bargain when you consider all of it's features. Hopefully, that fizz will be gone by the next "official" firmware upgrade.

i should add, i'm using a single coil tele. if that makes any difference.

I updated the firmware to 1.6 beta on my new Mustang V head and tweaked some sounds using my headphones, compared to what I usually play with on Amplitube 3. M5 is not even close to the quality of Amplitube! Well, I thought maybe it will be better on real speakers and cabs.

Today I tested it on my Marshall 1960A loaded with Cannabis Rex speakers. The sound was awful! While my old JCM800 2203 sounds really juicy the M5 was full of treble, brutal and fizzy as hell. No nice and typical middle honk on Marshall simulations. Then I started modding sounds and even A/B 'd those two amps. My old tube amp just sings nicely and has the mojo and air around notes that no digital modeler doesn't have. I noticed the famous tail end distortion despite of the new firmware and it was terrible on clean presets. My mind was going : "Shall I return this amp to the shop?!" Then I turned the 1960A cab a bit sideways and the sound was suddenly much better, softer, more bass, almost great. I thought whattahell!, this cab is never so sensitive to directions with the 2203. Tomorrow I will test more and try to find good sounds for upcoming gig on next week.

The new firmware has not removed the tail end fizz.

Also, fuzz and overdrive are much too similar kind of distortions. Fuzz isn't like real fuzz.

I would like to see an parametric eq programmed to the effect arsenal for removing any fizz around 1kHz.

I found an incredible difference in tone by changing the cab selections in amp editing (two hits on the amp button).I've got a M V as well and amp cab selection is very important.I have no tail end distortion with the update.

Good to hear George!!

I wish my M5 was also without the tail distortion. Today I updated the firmware twice to make sure it's there. No cure. I even downgraded to 1.5 - no help. Are there different generations of Mustangs, like v1.0 and v1.1, that respond differently to the firmware update?!

Fortunately I found good settings for the Vox 60's simulation which covered nicely basic rock songs like Day of The Eagle and Perfect Strangers. My band mates didn't hate the sound in our rehearsal

I think the amp is a keeper and for the price it's a good deal, I just hope the tail fizz will be sorted out somehow.

I had no Internet for a week :( but I'm back  ..so what I see here, the latest firmware fixed the "problem" for everyone with the Mustang I/II but not the III/IV/V ?
