took home a mustang III last week - had the dreaded fizz as well (or note decay digitization....whatever you want to call it)

updated firmware - did not fix problem

manufacture date was 02/2011 -- I am in Canada

took the amp back the next day.....i am thinking about just getting the Mustang II instead, I don't need the power (that is what my tube amps are for)

just looking for a practice amp.....does anyone know if this problem is common with the Mustang II amps....i have yet to try one, but would certainly settle for the 40 watt amp, as the Mustang III with the note decay problem is unplayable...after a while it is all you hear...drives your ear crazy

I really hope someone out there (aka Fender) can let us know if the problem is fixable or if it is even being worked on.....i will gladly wait for the Mustang III if a fix is in the works

Overall I want to love these amps, but the note decay issue is a deal breaker

I had the Mustang II. Great amp, did not have the problem we are discussing here. Had it about a month, used it everyday and took it for rehearsals, not enough power with a full band (at least that was in my case but I've read of guys gigging with it so your mileage may vary), so I traded it in for a Mustang III. As a practice amp it is great. I was happy with it.

I agree the note decay problem is very annoying, makes it unplayable for me as well.

Can I get some clarification on this issue: Does this problem affect the Mustang I? Finding out about this is the ONLY thing standing between me and it.

Based on the feedback here, it sounds like with the most recent firmware, the issue is only present on Mustang III amps.

I think this statement is inaccurate.

I have one of the early MII's and I had the problem using the speakers, headphones and FUSE ... it was in all modes in which the Mustang can be used, it was also recordable. When using a clean preset and listening closely, the hiss could be heard on all strings beginning with the attack and through the decay. It wasn't linited to the low strings or to the decay only. When using a dirty preset, the hiss could likewise be heard in the background even though it was slightly masked by the dirty preset.

IMO the hiss shows up differently depending on several variables and so has been described differently by different people.

Many people have made attempts to define it's cause and have reached a variety of different conclusions ... which may or may not be correct. IMO this is speculation and an understandable artifact of users trying their best to explain why their Mustang is behaving as it is and is at least partially a direct result of Fender's silence, irrespective of what they are doing behind the scenes to address the problem. The fact is only Fender can tell us what the cause of the problem is.

IMO Fender is loosing credibility. The hiss problem still exists for some in which a software update did not provide relief. Customers who have read this thread are finding the problem on amp after amp after amp. Fender has been silent. The problem remains and users are out good money for a product that doesn't meet the performance level that is clearly evident in the sound files on Fender's Mustang product page.

I trust that Fender is working on the problem. The software update helped but there is more work for them to do.

My current opinion is that there are too many problems with the Mustang as reported by users and that until Fender resolves them ... I don't think the Mustang is ready for prime time and that people should spend their money on something else.

I also think users that are having problems should contact Fender and Loren directly in addition to posting in this forum.

Was talking about the Mustang III w/ firmware 1.6, not II. It is true for me and a few other people have reported the same. Is your Mustang III bad on the headphones and USB?

damn, i was gonna buy the mustang III because of its versatility, and extra features over the stang I and II (better speaker, FX loop etc). but if there is fizz...and no response from fender?!?!? hmmmz, does not look good.

i will check my local instrument store today if i can hear any fizz, the thing is that in this country there is no such thing as 30 day money back, if u bring it out of the store there is NO RETURN! i guess i have to test every setting while im there, high-low-clean n dirty.

i wonder if this is by design from fender?
or could it be a currupt china factory-boss who replaced the fenderspec poweramp (or whatever is making the fizz) with some cheap china-copy ones for a big profit?!?!

any news?

Random problem batches to keep customers on their toes? :)

Or perhaps a modeling amp competitor using dirty tactics. :)

LOL, I was going to GC tomorrow to get the mIII.....everytime I decide on an amp, something comes up about the quality. I just bought a MIM strat, but I also have a Les Paul copy with humbuckers.I guess I'll just have to wait it out.

just an update on my amp....miii

i took it back to the guitar shop, plugged it in, played a guitar...err...where has the fizz gone????...i looked and felt a bit embarrassed if i'm honest - to my horror it had totally disappeared!!!!

so now i'm thinking it's an outside source causing it....i've played the amp in three places now, and in the 2 places i get this fizz fx...and i was right next to a fridge!!!

i'm gonna investigate this more when i get home.

i've not had time to check it out with my fridge turned off but i'm thinking this is the problem....or wrap amp in foil lol

Hee-hee... Then when Fender fixes the problem, you can wear the tin foil for a hat!  Just kidding.

I still think that this is still a major problem. If other amps don't have this problem, then this one shouldn't. Fridge or no fridge.

Just plugged the Tele into my MIII and tried several clean settings. Nothing, the note decays just fine.
