I talked to Loren yesterday, and he called back today. They know about the issue, are working on it, couldn't tell me if it is software or hardware, and couldn't offer any repair options. I hope to be able to buy the Mustang in the future when they work the bugs out, but for now it is getting returned.

@ BillJ: the power issue was my thought as well. It sounds like what my EH 2880 did before it was fixed by EH. Also, the issue isn't present on the headphone output.

Good luck to anyone else struggling with the issue.

I'm glad someone finally got a recording of it. Thats exactly the sound I had and I went through 3 of them (Mustang III).

I finally gave up when the store started charging me a 15% restocking fee and I also figured enough is enough. But I'll be interested again if the problem gets fixed.

Hi polishbroadcast,
Fender, as far as I can recall, has'nt contacted anyone with the problem,
in Europe - correct if I'm wrong. Only to do with a Sales/Marketing issue
re Footswitch pricing, by Fender UK & Ireland. Your lucky you're in the USA !

That's what.

Thanks for the clarification. I wouldn't have gotten all of that from "Halleluia you're in Americay". FWIW i called a few times, and asked that i get a followup call within the week even if they knew nothing. Surely there must be Fender repair people you can call in Europe and Asia?

As for the Mustang, i went to Guitar Center today to play a bunch of amps, but the Mustang III sounded worlds better than most of them, even some tube amps. The one i played was, funny enough, made in 11/2010, but it didn't have the fizz issue. So either Guitar Center has awesome AC power, or i got a bad one. I live too far away and it's not worth taking on the the bus back and forth if i bought another and wanted to return it. So we wait for a fix / or news.

Hi polishbroadcast,

You've made the right decision. Don't stay home by the phone too long !
My M III is the same vintage as the model you tried in the shop !
Have'nt got your "fizz" problem, but had the original problem cured by the
v1.6 Update. The original " Obnoxious tail end .... " issue was not what is
heard on your excellent sound byte. The original "Obnoxious" problem only
concerned a buzz just as the string notes decayed. So the problem
now highlighted by your input with the soundbyte is not going to be cured
by v1.6. It needs another Update for this seperate issue - a very different
problem to tackle.
Over to you, Fender.

Jim

Hi guys,

I have the same problem. I had a mustang II for a month, did not have this problem at all. Last Friday I upgraded to a Mustang III, as soon as I plugged it in at home (no I didn't try it at the store since the Mustang II had no problems) I noticed what "polishbroadcast" recorded.

Tests/Observations : Updated to firmware 1.6.4 right away, manufacture date is 11/2010. Did not have this problem with the Mustang II. I'm in Canada.

1) Gain on one, just using volume and master, not using the gain on any of the amp models. Just a bit of reverb or reverb off, no other effects.
2) Noticed the hiss on all the "clean" fender models (that's all I use).
3) Doesn't matter if Cab is selected to off, or any cab models, hiss is still there.
4) Tried all combination's of sag, bias etc, still have the hiss.
5) Hiss seems to be more pronounced on the Twin model, and the Twin Cab.
6) No hiss thru headphones.
7) Recorded direct from effects send out into the board to computer/Cubase. I didn't hear the hiss but I still want to do some more tests with this as this was quickly done late last night.
8 Plugged it into the power supply/conditioner of my rack effects, still had hiss, plugged into wall same thing. (by the way I have 2 dedicated circuits in my home studio for audio equipment so its not sharing anything with lights etc).
9) Hiss most pronounced on single note bass strings, less so on the treble strings.
10) Play a bar chord and let it sustain, hiss is there just as the chord is fading out. Again if play a bar full bar or major chord using all six strings it is more pronounced than just chording using the treble strings.

Next step is to see what is sounds like at rehearsal with a full band and to try recording direct again.

I can record what I've tested, if anyone is interested. The sound is exactly what "polishbroadcast" has recorded.

I really like these amps, but the hiss on the mustang III makes it unusable. Since I just upgraded I have a couple of weeks before I need to return it so I hope Fender can communicate something in the meantime or else I will have to return it. Mustang II unfortunately isn't "big" enough for what I need, the Mustang III would be a perfect solution if this problem can be fixed.

Any ideas? Anyone heard from Fender? Again the manufacture date is 11.2010 if that means anything.

reverb1999, I didn't try the headphone out or the effects loop out. The fizz was in the amp's speaker and that was the deal-breaker right there. Bob

Yes. See my previous message. Mine was also 11/2010 with the same symptoms you describe. Just to clarify, you are hearing digital artifacts, right? Hiss (ie. white noise) might suggest another issue. The problem seems to only happen for most people on the speaker output, not the USB or headphones.

Right, digital artifacts, I shouldn't have said hiss that was misleading. The EXACT same issue that you recorded I have with the speaker output, not with headphones and I will verify tonight if it is with the effects send going direct into a mixer. The amp is dead quiet, no white noise etc, when I pick a string and let the note decay thats when you really hear it, thru the speaker, especially on the E,A and D strings. It gets worse when you turn up the master so I won't be able to gig/rehearse with it.

I sent an email off to support earlier today stating what I have found. Hopefully they will respond.

It would be nice to know how many on this forum have this issue and if we could establish some kind of pattern to report to Fender. I wonder if it has anything to do with the manufacture date of 11.2010. I hope Fender will give us some kind of update since they know about the problem.

I am also a memeber of the hiss/fizz club...exact same issue recorded by Polishbroadcast. I spoke to Loren at Fender about a week ago and he indicated they are aware of the problem and working on it. I suggested that he may want to post some type of update on this board to provide assurance that they recognize the problem and are working on a solution....I have not yet seen any post from Loren...so until we see an "official" post from Fender as to staus....we wait...and hope....
