Thanks George,

Heartfelt Dawn - Am I correct when I say that you haven't tried the new version of the firmware?

Loren, you are correct.

My issue is that going direct into the Effects Return should bypass the preamp, correct? If so, then the harmonic undertone is there irrespective of using the digital Mustang preamp and going into the Mustang V power section, or when using an external preamp going into the Mustang V power section. That points to a problem with the power section.

Gentlemen(and Ladies),having said that I can't hear that tail-end distortion on my M5 anymore I certainly can't, THROUGH HEADPHONES , but this morning I hooked -up my Epiphone BJ cabs(16ohm ea) and it was there again with slight phase/wah effect.
So I coupled my HRD speaker to the M5 and it was still there.I then took a split from the fx out then to power amp in of my HRD and......gone,no fizz fuzz fozz.If the problem is in the power amp section of the M5 it could be a big problem. Can anyone else try my experiment please?

GT,
Let me see if I understand this right....
Are you saying that you are plugging your M5's FX OUT (aka Mustang V) into your Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp's Power Amp IN?
IF true....
THEN it sounds to me like the M5 power amp section isn't necessarily needed at all, ie, you can access the effects and amp presets on the M5 amp and simply use the HRD as the power amp.

Am I correct?

IF so, If I were Fender, I'd be making a simple rackmount sized FX module that connects to the computer, via USB for editing, then to either a) computer to standard amp Instrument IN or b) from the unit to amp's Instrument IN jack.

IF Fender did this, a lot of people could add this kind tech to whatever amp they own.

I think ..

Yes that's correct Twinhit FX out or headphones out give the same result and sure, fender could develop a pre-amp model along the lines of say...zoom G2series.Now the sound I got out of the M5 - HRD chain was very sweet indeed. No substitute for those 6L6's in digital territory yet!!Now if Fender could slot a 40watt valve power amp into the backside of the M5.......and it can be done I've already taken the measurements, the valves would sit horizontally. All "pie- in- the-sky" of course cause Fender have to first address the problem at hand.

I have a 2 week old M1 and just noticed this effect this weekend (latest firmware update perhaps a week ago). If you let the low E string die out, the note turns to something akin to air escaping from a balloon as the volume drops off. Since I only use the amp for practice I don't consider it a deal breaker for me, but those who are recording might find this unacceptable.

That said, I'm absolutely loving the amp. As a bit of - ahem, an old dog, I'm constantly amazed at how this technology has advanced.

i actually got around to plugging some headphones in - a pair of beyerdynamic dt990s( and believe me if there was a noise these babies would pick it up) and there is no artificial fizz.

so one thinks - how is this a firmware issue?

I just purchased a Mustang III. After tweaking for a bit, I noticed the fizz/buzz on lower notes - eliminated by simply lowering the preset/patch's Volume (not Gain) setting.

It appears that the modeling software allows enough output to clip either the D/A converter (not likely, as others report no buzz from Effects Send - which is probably post-D/A) or it's following (pre)amplification circuitry. No biggie, it seems...

Lowering the preset volume didn't remove the fizz on my Mustang V.
The sound is ok in the headphones output.
My theory: the background noise is guilty. It seems when the sound dies it melts into the high level noise and then the famous fizz appears.

Yesterday I updated my Mustang III with the new Firmware 1.6.4.
Though I ony had about half an hour to play with it, and it may be wishful thinking, but it sounded like the amp sounded a ittle smoother. I checked the touch wah, and it seemed to work a little better, but I didn't have time to fine tune the adjustments to see if it would be acceptable. My first impressions are that it isn't nearly as effective as the "auto wah" in my Digitech RP-2000.

I started another thread about an issue which sounds exactly like George's issue.

I had a Mustang III which had the "buzz with wah" effect and I downloaded 1.6.4. It did sound less pronounced but I could still hear it. By using a LP, stock 65 Deluxe model and hitting the low E string, it was very obvious. I posted a thread here and there was a suggestion about tightening screws but I tried that and it didn't go away. I eventually took it back to the store.

I went ahead and decided to try it again because I really liked the tones the Mustang is capable of. I ordered one from online this time. It comes in, and I hear the same sound. I install 1.6.4 again and its still there but less obvious. I try it through headphones and its not there.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. For me to get two in a row like this, I either have extremely bad luck or very sensitive hearing. I get this with my other guitars as well (Tele and Strat) but its not near as obvious as with the LP. I haven't tried another amp into the effects return but I'm thinking about it. I have a Digitech pedal that would be perfect to try.

Try the UK80s with 4x12M.

I'm still getting some kind of weird distortion when I use the POG2 into the amp.
