Hi All!,
I'm new to these boards and glad to be here! I just got the Mustang I amp yesterday. I updated the software and the firmware, and now I have two easy beginner questions:

1. How do I reset the amp to it's default state...that is..NO digital weirdness, just a clean sounding Mustang Amp. sound?

2. How do I record to my PC? Is that possible in FUSE?

thanks in Advance

either go into fuse and take away all of the effects or from the amp turn the mod knob so it activates and then to off, reoeat for DLY/REV knob. this will take away the effects.

2. How do I record to my PC? Is that possible in FUSE?

connect to PC with USB cable and go into ableton live 8. this is included with the amp you just have to download it by following istructions on a stickied thread at the top of this forum. if you find this software to be too complicated which it is you can use audacity or wavosaur or any other recording software. the 2 i mentioned are free downloads on the internet. hope this helped.

thanks in Advance

It does help. Thank you. I'm still so new that I haven't seen the Ableton Live software yet. I've run Fuse. I'll start with Ableton and walk the beginner path. From reading posts, I begin to see that most don't like Ableton much! I've used Audacity for a long time, so I might go with that. It has the advantage that it works under W7 and Ubuntu. It will be interesting to see if the Mustang amp is available as a "source" in both operating systems.

oh, audacity and mustang are working fine under Linux. In fact on my laptop (HP 8710p) it works better under Linux than windows because of ASIO issues with built-in sound card. But fire-up jack and off you go.
There's even a working software to edit amp presets, see http://piorekf.org/plug/
have fun with your new amp :)

I"m still confused about how to get this amp back to a "neutral" state.
if I zero all the dials on the physical amp, doesn't that mess up whatever amp is pictured on the screen?
Under "amp" selection...where is "Fender Mustang I".
I need a clean slate to start from...reliably.

Highly irritated with this amp... It's not very loud (compared to the Fender Frontman 15R it replaced), and I can't get it to where there are NO effects.
It won't record into Audacity 1.2.6...at least I can't get it to.
I spent the morning reading the .PDF manual...and it barely qualifies as one... it mostly just points out the knob and says "this reverb"... ohhh nice. Thank you for that.
It seems like a big step backward. I can't rely on a consistent sound. That is troubling!

OK ,... here's the trick. Once you have the mustang plugged into the USB you have to enable it as a recording device in your Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording(tab) then it shows up when you open Audacity under the recording devices. If your default mic from the laptop still sounds through when recording, you may have to DISABLE that in the same method, you can always enable it if you need it for something else. It's a digital modeling amp, it will always have the modeling of whichever amp your select, you can turn off the pedals and effects just not the amp type. Nature of the beast. Everyone can feel some axiety with the learning curve of new equipment but you may get it sorted out as you learn what you can do with the different options. Hope this helps.

Hi dbowen,

First off, the Mustangs are modeling amps. They don't have a "sound" in the way that other tube or SS amps have a sound. Therefore, it's not really possible to disable the modeling and just dial in a clean sound. The purpose of modeling amps is to imitate lots of other amps. You can of course call up a clean amp model such as a 57 Deluxe with no effects if you'd like.

Regarding recording with the Mustang and Audacity, if your Mustang is on and connected, you should see it show up as an input option in Audacity's audio setup panel. As you may know, the Mustang is an input-only device and you'll have to use another source for output. If you'd like info on setting up the Mustang to record into an ASIO compatible app, take a look at this KB article.

except that it doesn't show up there... Windows 7 Ultimate... microphone and line in are all that show up. I've unplugged and plugged in the usb so that windows makes the disconnect / connect sound... sigh...
Is there a driver to install that will get W7 to recognize this amp?

dbowen,

Try right clicking in the area just below where it shows the mic and line input devices and select Show Disabled Devices. You should see the Mustang and then be able to enable it.

The amp must be plugged into USB also to see it.

wow..what version of Audacity are you using? Are you on a MAC?
There isn't anything below the little Microphone icon but the time line markers...

With the Mustang plugged into the USB (turned on and signed into Fuse) go to your Control Panel. Go to Hardware and Sound>Sound>Recording(tab) , right click in open area where it shows your mic and stuff and make sure 'show disabled devices' aka both are checkmarked, then you should see the Mustang amp to enable it. Now in the same manner you may have to disable your integrated microphone as a recording device if it sounds through when you record. I know it's frustrating, I went through it. Then open Audacity after you enable it, under edit>preferences>recording select MME and then below that you should see under devices USB recording with the Mustag amp in parentheses next to it, select it and bam ! hit record...
I'm Win7 on a laptop.

1. it doesn't show up as an input device
2. the article you referenced has a dead link. you can't download the ASIO driver it specifies. (try it and see).
I'm going off now to try to find the Fender ASIO driver on my own, download that, and then see if installing that driver makes any difference.
