I dont have that CD (I bet ur nailing his sounds ez tho :) ... I have tons of his CD's tho ..but mainly I just listen to The Jimi Hendrix Concerts and Band of Gypy's .. allthough couple days ago i picked up a 5 CD pack called West Coast Seattle Boy- Hendrix Anthology ..not that great but adds to my collection and Albert King / SRV In Session which is pretty good. SRV is only playing thru one Amp ..and I cant figure out what Amp it is ..but guessing its Vibroverb 212 ...doesn't look like the single 15' ..but his sound is
perfect ..as if he's going thru ALL his usual chained amps together!! .. I love watching stevie in it ..cuz A. King talks allot ..just like BB. King does ..and Stevie's in his prime or even before it ..and I can tell he cant stand talking .... the bg blues bass player music's overwhelming him and he just wants to dig in an play ...like a little kid in a candy store .. but they have great respect ..being A. King his idol ... anyways ..yeah have fun on ur MIII .. pretty soon I'll be playing that or the IV (o:

Jimi's Lonely Avenue on the West Coast cd's is worth the price of the whole set. What a great cover!

You'll love the III or IV whatever you choose. These are great amps at unreal prices.

Hurry up and get yours though. I hear that after the initial stock sells out, it will take a little while to restock them in the stores.

paztormike, aLinux, and Sockeye,

Thank you for the kind words and support. I am in transit now, and I am sure I will beat the III there, but my I and Dinky are with me. It is my goal to truly focus on learning to play fluidly and effieciently the typse of music(or in the ballpark) that I listen too. And to figure out all the ins and outs of the Mustang's. I have seen nothing but rave reviews for the I and now the III is getting the same. So I cant wait to use the one for some quiet practice until I build my confidence up more, and then blast it with the III. Any tips you guys have for presets, and recording I would love to get.

Thank You,

The I and the III are both great amps, you'll have a blast with both of them. Let us know what kind of music you are playing and we can give you some more specific tips.

Here are a few of the things that I am learning on both amps.

On the Mustang I, I could play the Bassman setting all day long. I don't know why it sounds so perfect to me, but I love to turn up the gain and treble on that setting and get a really full, heavy hard rock sound. (In my opinion, if the Mustang I only came with that one amp model, it would still be fully worth the price.)

On the Mustang III
I am still in a honeymoon stage where I love every amp model on this amp. I was however surprised at the "American 90's" amp and how versatile it is. I feel like this amp is trying to model a rectified Mesa Boogie stack or a Soldano type of sound. I have found though that when you lower the amount of gain, you still have a lot of character and can get some great classic rock type of tones. I've been loving some ACDC type of tones from this amp model.
I also can't speak highly enough about the '57 champ. The Champ amps were originally little 8 inch speakers in a small cab with only one volume control, but the circuit that was used gave that amp the coolest character. I am blown away by how Fender captured that character and added it to the Mustang III. Many artists used the Champ amps to record in the studio, in fact, I have head that Clapton used on one many different albums. The coolest part about the Champ setting on the III is that you can get the character of the Champ at any volume. You can get a great overdriven tone even at a low volume (which you can't without a pedal on the standard Champ) or you can still get a cleaner bluesy tone by rolling off the gain at a higher volume (which you also can not do with a champ.)

As far as learning goes. The coolest resource that I have found is a website called www.justinguitar.com
I don't know how much internet access you will get while deployed, but Justin breaks everything down into short 10 minute lessons, he has lessons for beginners and then paths for Blues, Rock, Metal and Country. The coolest thing is that it is all for free. I've found that if I take a 10 minute lesson and practice it for a couple of days, I can usually move on to the next lesson pretty easily. Guitarists of any level can find some help on his lessons.

I hope that stuff helps. Feel free to ask questions any time you are able, there are lots of great guys on this forum that would love to help you out.

Again. Blessings. Stay safe. and Keep Rockin.

Mike

Picked my Mustang III up last week, haven't had much playing time as I'm recovering from rotator cuff surgery two weeks ago and I can only play in short spurts before the pain gets bad, it's my physical therapy :)

Anyway, from the few presets I've tried I'm really diggin number 14, " Beauty Clean" I think. '65 Twin with large room reverb and tape delay. Sounds great with my EJ strat. I've had a ton of amps, tube and SS modeling. These are great value for the money IMO.

I did a light demo last week and thought, "just ok". However, with the bad weather and no on in GC when I dropped by today, I had plenty of time to check out the amp and listen to it at more realistic levels. I must say, I was pretty surprised. So much so that I may pull the trigger tonight and buy one. Thinking about it anyway. The one complaint that I have always had with these type of amps however is the overall volume of each model. I've owned a couple of smaller modeling amps and have tried the Line 6 as well. On almost every one of these, when you switch from say a "Blackface" amp to a "Plexi", there is a huge volume disparity which makes the amp almost unusable in a live situation. What I noticed on the Mustang III was that if you took the time, there was a gain knob and volume knob and a Master Volume independent of the model/program. Does anyone have an experience with this? It would be nice to be able to jump from one model to another without worrying about scurrying back to your amp and have to move the master volume know so as not to kill someone in the audience, much less the band.

I'm pretty certain I just set the Master to whatever volume I wanted within Fuse and saved it to my Amp to pump all the volumes to an equal. Somebody said it can't be done.. but I'm sure I already did it. When I first bought the Amp I found some presets were to low..so I just up'd it in Fuse and saved ...no problems since.
