I have not yet found a Music Store in the Seattle area with one of the new Mustangs in stock yet. GC said that they should be in on Tuesday or Thursday.

I'd love to see a video demo, and I am dying to try one next to a Mustang II just to see the difference.

I sold some gear and was about to buy a Mustang II last week when I heard that the III, IV and V were coming out. If the III sounds as good as the II at low volumes, I am buying a III, if not, I have to stick with the II. I just knew that if I bought the II this week, I would be wondering if the III was so much better.

If Fender or any consumer posts a demo on youtube, it would tide me over until I can actually pick one up. Right now, I'm ampless and looking forward to plugging into a Mustang.

If you have one... Post those videos!!! :D  Post those reviews!!!

First two sounded awesome. That third "rock" thing sounded like a**.

Exactly my reaction. What was he thinking with that tone? Sounded like a transistor radio with a blown germanium diode!

I've got to assume that the mic was clipping that sound a lot. none of those tones sounded all that great through that mic.

No, the facepalm was directed at your response. I think he was going for the old Pete Townsend (the Who) sound which would be a Gibson SG with P-90's. Then at the very end he got a clean sound without stepping on the footswitch.

That was my impression also. As soon as I heard it I thought Pete Townsend, although there was a bit of clipping which is par for youtube vids.

The third preset in the clip is really good. A la Pete T. indeed. The first two are good but not to die for.

Tone is so subjective anyway. Many find that Hendrix got his best tones, live, with his Marshall crancked all the way-up with his fuzz face in front. C'mon... His tone (and often the playing) was awfull, to say the least.

Well, I don't have a video review for you, but I just created an account on here to share my thoughts on it. I just picked up a Mustang III at Guitar Center yesterday here in Indianapolis, the just got them in stock, they had to get it from the back and unbox it so I could try it out. I haven't played a Mustang II so I can't compare them directly as far as the sound goes. I wasn't considering the Mustang II because I wanted something a little bit more powerful yet still small enough to keep out in my office all the time. I had pretty much decided on the VOX Valvetronix 80+ until Fender announced the release of the Mustang III. It's 100 bucks cheaper than the VOX and has an effects loop, includes the footswitch, and with the included software it's just a great value. I can't believe they aren't charging more for these!

If you're considering the Mustang II vs the III, here's my 2 cents. At $299, the Mustang III is still a steal for what you get. It's not much larger than the II so it doesn't take up too much space and is still lightweight. Advantages over the II for me are: 100 watt, effects loop, included 2 button footswitch, mid and reverb knobs on the amp, and the LCD screen makes editing things on the amp MUCH easier. I'd say get the III just for the LCD screen alone. You don't even really have to hook it up to your computer if you don't want to, I find it easier to edit directly on the amp. On the Mustang II, it looked a bit confusing to me on how to edit the effects.

Having said that, it all depends on what you want to use it for. I wanted something small enough to keep out all the time and big enough to take with me to band practice. If you are buying something that will never leave your bedroom then I'd consider the II if you don't care about the other features.

As for the sound, I've been very impressed. For a solid state modeling amp, it is still very responsive to your playing dynamics and the amps respond pretty realistically (turn down my guitar volume for clean, turn it up and get a nice breakup distortion). I can already see that people who spend some time working with these amps will be rewarded with some very workable tones. I'd recommend starting off with the 88-99 presets when you try it out in the store (these are just the basic amp models with no effects turned on).

Anyways, sorry for the long winded response but I'm so happy with this purchase, I can't wait to take it to band practice and try it out some more. Now go out there and try this thing out! Enjoy!

Exactly Doug... for a measly 100 bucks more you get all that much more. I agree. Its nice they didn't price-tag the III's at $399 which by the looks of the others, they could have got away with ... so the III makes the best choice deal-wise any day. Fender roX!

No wonder I can't stand The Who! Tinny, grating, over-reverberated, trashy guitar sounds with no presence. Those first two tones ROCKED!
