Well, I love my Mustang I. I want to buy the III, but the fact that it is an open back design concerns me. Is it that important? In my experience, a closed cabinet allows for more bottom end, as is the case on my Peavey 5150 2x12 combo. But, for a solid state combo, will it be a problem? I'm not sure if my concerns are justified.

Ever strummed a chord on a Blues Deluxe? HUGE bottom end, open back. That's because the oversized cab is just the right size for key standing waves from the 12' speaker to resonate. Cab size and construction count a lot for bottom end. That's why BJs and PJs sound so boxy. Cabs are too small. Frankly the MIII looks a little small to really kick some wave action.

I have a Hot Rod Deville 212 which is an open back design. I'm just curious about the differences in the cabinet design between the Mustang II and III...will there a sonic difference between the two (besides the additional features and speakers).
