Howdy folks,

I just read the release announcement of the new Mustang amps, and according to what I read, the III (1x12") and IV (2x12") are loaded with Celestion G12T-100 speakers ! I always thought, that DSP needs linear full range/flat response (FRFR) speakers to sound good - the G12T-100 sounds great in tube amps and has a very rock-solid bass, but it is far away from being linear and even more far away from being a FRFR speaker.

Are the amps loaded with a special production run from Celestion, are the new amps tweaked to sound good with standard G12T-100´s or did the engineers had a bad day ?!? Can someone shed some light on that ?

Cheers,

Doc

The latter. They tweaked the EQ output of the power stage (basically distorted the flat output) to compensate for the spikey and quirky freq response of the guitar speaker. This leaves the preamp output flat for PA/recording purposes.
