Should I save the Fender presets before I start editing, or can I restore them if I don't like what I create?

Thx

You can download the fender presets as any others, they're all on the web. So nothing's gonna be lost. And you don't have to save your presets on the amp, as long as your pc is connected. So you can test your presets very carefully and compare it to the one that might be written over.

No! You don't need to. The factory presets are stored in the amp itself, in a memory. You can at anytime restore the amp to its factory state. You don't need Fuse to do that.

Here's how:

Factory Restore
You can restore your Mustang amplifier to the original factory settings if desired. All user presets will be erased!
To restore the Mustang amplifier to factory settings:
1. Turn the amplifier OFF.
2. Press and hold the EXIT button while turning the amplifier ON. Continue holding the EXIT button until it is no longer illuminated

Ah! Good question! I'll try and be back.

If the only way, without Fuse, to restore the original presets, is to restore the original firmware too by performing a factory restore directly on the amp, then, we have a little problem.

UPDATE
Ok. Found.

In fuse click on Main menu, click on Help and on About Fender Fuse. You'll see the FUSE version number on the left and the Firmware version number on the right.

Indeed a factory restore do what it says! It resets the amp to its state when it left the factory. That means presets and firmware.

Yes!.

UPDATE 2:

NO!!!

Sorry for the confusion! :? . I doubled-checked. Disconnected the USB cable and did a Factory Restore. Updated FUSER reconnected the cable, checked the Firware version. Still 1.6.

So a factory restore seems to leave the latest firwmare intact.

For real ? It also resets the Firmware back?, if so, that's g.a.y .. You know how many times I've done the Factory resets since I've updated to these latest Firmware(s) Ah well, another thing I've learnt today. Thanks! :D

Oh man, I'm so sorry for the confusion (see my edited post above.)

If someone else could do the same test, I would feel better this morning! :x

With fuse, perform a backup of your entire amp's presets using the backup function via the Utilities menu. You can restore your entire amp's presets at anytime using the Restore function via the same Utilities menu.

hmmm...I'm not sure I like this...but maybe there's undocumented "REALLY do a factory restore" procedure as opposed to "pretend to do factory restore but just overwrite user presets"

It's akin to the BIOS in your computer. Yeah, you can do it, but you'd have to install the older firmware manually.

I know, I'm just kidding.
I am a (old) sysadmin so I updated firmware on lot of different...things... I've been lucky so far and never fried anything beyond repair, but I never felt very relaxed when I had to flash firmware on any device. Its just 'restore factory settings' should do just that, restore factory settings. All of them. Including firmware. That would make me sweat a little less when being forced to upgrade anything.
my rule is: If it ain't broken, don't fix it :D
