I have a question about the Mustang III vs. the Mustang II
I might need a Fender Employee's input on this.

What I want to know is:
Are there any sounds on the Fender Mustang III that I will not be able to get on the Mustang II using Fender Fuse?

I was going out to purchase a Mustang II this weekend before I saw the buzz on the III's and now I wonder if I buy the II will I just be bummed when I learn how much more the III actually does?

I don't need the power as it is mainly for practice at home.

I just don't want to regret my purchase.

fender???? bueller???

I just looked at Fender's own website that has detailed info on the new Mustang amps. It appears that all of the amps will share the same models ( Twin, Deluxe Reverb, Vox, etc) I would be that they will add more amp models in the future ala L6.

I know no official answersm, but I think the biggest differences are the onboard interface (Mustang III IV V have an LCD and can hold 100 presets rather than our 24) and they have more pedal options, such as 2 and 4 and a 2+4 option for the IV and V

My understanding is that with fuse, we can get any sound the higher end mustangs can get.

Its just more power, and more options on amp.

Im happy with my Mustang 2, and I may decide different in the future, but for my inhome practice, the higher end mustangs are just too much amp. :)

(But I still have to wipe the drool on my chin when I look at em. :) )

From the looks of it and from what I've read, only differences:

i. 100 watts vs 40 (40 watts is already more than enough for my needs)
ii. 100 presets vs 24 (24 is already more than enough for my needs)
iii. 37-so-called effects vs 24 (but i see no difference, less i'm blind)
iv. 2 or 4 button f/s vs 1 button (this is daaaaaaaaamn more useful for my needs)
v. Liquid Crystal Display on the newer models, but not the M I/II's (this could be neat)

MIII's and greater are loaded with Celestion speakers. So if your into giggin w/ friends, etc ... they'll def. hold up better than the Special Design but tone-wise is what i'm interested in. The MII in my ears cant be beat, but I gues will see :) The one I'm most
interested in is the IV 2x12 (Stereo) yum!!

I still want to know... (it'd be great it a fender mod would respond, or someone who has specific working knowledge of the Mustang II and III)

Can I create a sound on Fender Fuse using some of the effects or amp models that come only on the Mustang III and download them to the Mustang II?

The increased power is no big deal to me.
The speaker upgrade is no big deal to me because the Mustang II already sounds great.
The footswitch upgrade is no big deal since I am using this for practice.

The LCD display might be a big deal depending on how user friendly it is. The Mustang II is already very easy to use and understand without help.

I would just love to know.

III to V are advertised as

3 New Models. More Presets. More Effects
Unfortunalty the answer is obviously no. You can't use an amp model in II that is only available in III. You can't use an effect in II that is only available in III. All that makes sens. Fuse contains only the data structures. The tone is generated by the amp itself.

Oh, to me, it is! I and II share a 8" Fender Special Design speaker while the III to V models share a Celestion G12T-100 12" 100 watts speaker. Two very different speakers. There should be a noticable difference on the tone all things being equal.

Sorry for another non-official Fender answer

Yes - there's no difference in software (all presets currently for MI/II's will continue working with MIII's semelesly etc.. and vise versa) Just think there the same Amp only they've added an onboard LCD screen.

The increased power is no big deal to me.

great

The footswitch upgrade is no big deal since I am using this for practice.

enuff greatness lol

I would just love to know.

I think you do. MII is your Amp. Mine too :D but I'm still going to try out the IV and get
a feel for the stereo effect, for something to do but i'll probably pass. I wish they had
a USB stick I could carry with me to the music store and try it with some presets I like.

Hi Strat,
I think the 37 so called new effects aren't really new. From what I've read, it looks exact
to the MI/II's - I dont see anything new and it would be redundant unless they upgraded
the MI/II's effects through firmware since we're all in the same family and share presets. I dont think there going to make an entire new board for presets just for the MIII/IV/V
Amp line. If they do, that's jus !@$ lol. I'd think some sort of compatability between them all 100% since MI/II's haven't even been on the street longer then a few months.

Otherwise these new breeds should be called the Muskrat in my eyes

The Mustang I and II have 8 amp models and 24 effects available on the amp where as the Mustang III, IV and V have 12 amp models and 37 effects available on the amp but both have the same number (12 amp, 37 effects) available via Fuse.

The extra amps and effects aren't specific to the Mustang III, IV and V just that you have to use Fuse to access some of them on the Mustang I and II.

So Yes any sounds you can do on the Mustang III you can do on the Mustang II, though non of us know what the extra power and different Speaker will add to the equation. :)

I believe that is the best way to describe the family. All options there within FUSE and a PC across the family. The difference is standalone number of preset and effects and foot-switch and speaker options. And of course the Middle tone EQ that is lacking on the I & II. So if you're into home recording via any one would do the same tricks, but in a live you have to choose according to your needs.
I believe this is the smartest move by Fender (not crippling the lowest/cheapest members, via software), but on the same time adding useful hardware features essential for a live performance where more Watts and better speakers, footswitching and EQing are needed as well.
At home I have all the time in the world to experiment with fuse and get the best tone possible. Since I don't care about gigging I do not care about the extra hardware features the III, IV, and V have. If I do in the future I can get one of the higher end models AND still be able to use my custom made presets (vs starting all over), with some minimal EQing.

Oh yeah they have the middle control too.. I missed that. MI/II have 12 Amp models.

Look, let's be honest at these prices we all should just buy two Mustangs. I know I will, I have the Mustangl now I just need to decide should I get the lll or lV. What do you guys think?

Choose one of your favorite I's preset (take notes of the knobs/effects positions on paper) and try it on the III and IV at the store. Choose the one that sounds the best at the master volume level you need. IV might sounds thinner at equal volume. You'll have to try before to buy.
