My mustang II sounds like it has a broken speaker. I get a rattling almost springlike (or loose spring) sound when it is played at fairly low volumes (about 2.5 to 3.5). It's on most of the amp models I am using which is the 65 reverb, bassman, and champ but with no reverb effects being used on any of them. Definately more pronounced on the bass strings and low strings. I have turned it up to 5 and the sound obvouisly gets louder but I don't think worse.

If I wanted to check the speaker how do I get to it the best way to check it. Pull the back or the grill off it? Will this affect my warranty?

Is anybody else having a problem like this?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Is it LOUD as when you hit the strings..or more visible once your string(s) have decayed ? If the later, its normal, else, maybe a bad speaker since there's really nothing much can go wrong... maybe a transformer. One time I bought a brand new Peavey and I had to keep hitting the transformer to knock it into a playable state or it sounded something like you describe.

Not too sure what could be causing that noise. You may wan't to try updating the firmware. If it's a software issue that should fix it. If not, it's a hardware issue and I would suggest taking in for service. Where exactly are you located?

I should have started this off with I am a total NOOBIE when it comes to electric guitars and amplifiers.

@Loren Howard - Fender I think I have the most current update. When plugged into Fuse it shows 1.6 on the about screen. I live about 70 / 100 miles from Fort Worth / Dallas.

@aLinux Yes it is more noticeable after you pick the strings as it decays. I did find out if you mute the strings with your hand and strum across them you don't here the sound even if you turn the volume all the way up.

I also did some more experimenting last night. I tried 2 guitars (fender telecaster and taylor t5) also got another amp Peavey envoy 110, it appears that I have something other than an amp problem. I can reproduce the sound with both amps and both guitar's. It appears to be mostly on the bass strings. The telecaster does it the worse than the t5, of the two guitars. Doesn't seem to matter which amp both of them are about the same. I even switched plugs and rooms in my house to see if it was an electrical problem. I don't hear any fret buzzing on either guitar when it is not plugged in so I don't think that is what it is. Even thought it mostly occurs fretting notes near the center of the fret board on the low E and up part of the A strings. It will still show up on strings played opened E, A, and D. Also I play the t5 thru an acoustic ag30 amp and have no issues with any buzzing noises.

I'm basically down to two possiblities as far as I know, 1 it is either the guitar cable or 2 it is normal.

Thanks for all the info.

Tony

Try a different cable but its probably just the nut of the guitar pinching those strings or get somebody to setup both guitars professionally, nut, fretboard, bridge might need
a little tlc... else, just strum away:D

FOUND IT!!!!

Took my guitar, amp, cable, everything to a guitar shop about 50 mile away where we found out what the rattle, buzz, broken spring, what ever sound was .... we found it.

It was the carrying handle on top of the amp. Apparrently even at low volumes the bass side is causing the handle to vibrate against the cabinet. One of the guys pulled the handle up tight and held it and that fixed a lot of it. After tightening the screws on just about everthing on the amp, the noise is gone.

I wouldn't have believed if I hadn't been setting there with all the guys when one of them pulled up the handle while holding the amp down.

lol aLinux, I guess you are safe to install future fuse updates, you will have your nice old tube distortion as long as you don't tighten any screw

@shotgunone thanks for info, glad the problem was easy to fix

57 miles to be exact to my nearest music store. LOL. But when you live in rural Texas that's just down the road.

I said it sounded like something loose or broken. Never dreamed of the handle. Never checked it either. I did take the back off and tighened the speaker screws about a full turn each. It was kind of amazinng that lots of the screws were loose including mine. Felt kind of stupid when they found it.
