When connecting Mustang I to Ableton Live 8 through Fender Universal ASIO the recorded audio volume is too low. The green volume markers are only at 10 - 20%. How can I adjust the volume up? Is it done inside the Ableton or on the Mustang? Or do I need an external audio interface?

I use Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 soundcard and Windows 7.

Try to increase the volume on your track after its recorded. Thats what I did, worked ok I think. Make sure to select all...or highlight all of your track then right-click or whatever and choose the db thing...i think default is 3 but may be different in Ableton and make it
5 or something else. Good luck.

Thanks, but this tip does not help in Ableton Live. I've tried several settings by lowering the track volume before recording and increase it afterwards. But the output volume is the same whatever.

Well, there's gotta be a way. Sorry, I uninstalled Ableton but i thought there all about the same. Like in mine I just somehow drag the mouse and press Shift or Ctrl or maybe Alt and drag the mouse along the entire track of my recording then its highlighted sorta black color then i right-click the track and choose volume increase or something. I only tried it once when i first bought the Amp so I pretty much forget ... guess I should shuddup lol....but it did the trick.

Someone with knowledge in recording here will be able to help you.. but I know it can be done..especially with the Ableton Live. Good luck.

Yes, today I foud that by doubleclicking the track I can open it in clip-mode, and there I can adust the volume in dB post recording.

But I think there should be a way to adjust the digital output volume of the Mustang - as the Mustang amp is the audio interface in this case. After all that would be a better way to good audio quality!

Yeah that's it ..its called the same in my recorder "db" default was 3 I think and i raised
it up. I know somebody says its not the best way sicne it can produce white noise or
something.. i think he was meaning "background noise" but since its recorded directly into USB .. I dont think its possible and I never heard no difference other than my guitar volume was louder but still crystal clean. But I know, I'd like to still raise the volume (recording levels) before the fact - I just don't understand how or if its possible yet.

Yah, I'm having the same problem. I would really like to hear a solution.

The sound quality is excellent, but it barely moves the meter. I read somewhere in Ableton that the input may not be "line level" and that I may require a pre-amp. But that just doesn't seem right, or why would they bundle Ableton with the Mustang if it can't readily accept the USB signal at adequate volume.

I've worked in production rooms and sound studios all my life and it's really frustrating to me that you can't just increase the line-in volume. I must be missing something that's quite likely fairly obvious. LOL

Help!

I just got one as well, so I asked around a few questions. Someone informed me that Audacity uses the same Fender drivers, so I think I may try that instead of going for the Live Lite 8. Are these bundled softwares really worth it, they definitly don't seem user friendly like the Fuse software.

Pretty sure thats how they figured offsetting the low price of these Amps. They throw in some shareware-like-software in hopes you purchase... but Amplitude doesn't output to my MII so I don't understand why its included. Ableton seems to have been made for Albert Einstein. Even if I did purchase all the included software - what would I do with it.

They seem to be more directed at the Professional Guru - but the Amp was made for me

Audacity doesn`t support ASIO directly. If you use Linux ...its simple to compile in support, but there`s no Winodows binary that I could find w/ ASIO support. Here`s one that does work though.

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately there's no way to adjust the input volume other than the gain and volume controls on the amp and the volume control on the guitar. The good news is that you can raise the volume on the track during recording. This won't affect what's being recorded, but it will allow you to hear what you're doing a lot better.

LOL. I guess so. Have to crank 'er up. Just afraid i might startle the old folks next door. Now I know the meaning of the slogan "High speed. Amped up. and LOUD."

I did find, after doing the typically unmanly thing of actually reading the manual, that it's easy to increase the recorded track volume after recording. Piece of cake. And since the signal is so clean I don't notice any appreciable increase of noise. Coupled with Howard's suggest of increasing the track volume while recording, all should be ok. Not sure how you do that, but again, I guess I'll just have to buck up and read the manual. :D

Here's what I've been doing to adjust the volume of the recorded signal from the amp.

In Reaper, I use a volume envelope on that track and increase or decrease the volume as needed.

In Ableton, I use the track volume control located in the mixer section of that track.

Both methods can be used either before recording if a sound test finds the volume too low or too high, or after recording if the volume still needs adjusting for the final mix.

I haven't found any problems using these methods, possibly since both are before the master control in the signal chain.

I hardly record ... but what I found, and since the recording is pure guitar+amp over usb, you can get away with increasing the volume of your guitar track later w/o hearing any background noises. It worked for me the first time I tried with wavosaur to do this thing linuxkid blah recording.
